I'd really like to find a tool to safely and without damage remove old style wiper arms from the posts. All the tools I see are for the newer bolt on style. There has to be something out there.

    Thanks.

the tool i have looks like a hook that wraps over the end, grabs the little lock and when you squeeze it against the arm it allows you to pull it off evenly mine is a blue point from snapon

If they resist coming off easily a slide hammer works well. Wrap the complete wiper with a towel to protect surrounding paint and trim or have someone hold and steady the wiper to keep it from jumping onto the hood. Position the slide hammer hook oposite the wiper hinge and pull in line with the shaft with a gentle nudge of the slide hammer action.

Be very carefull. these wipers want to jump off and land...out in the middle of your hood. Been there.

years ago (HS gas station job) we used a tool that was forked on both ends (one end was wider than the other - two sizes of wiper arms) and had two indentations to slip under the base of the arm, then you just pulled up. That was back when pretty much all cars used either a small or large base and there was some uniformity.

An old-style battery terminal puller works great.

Thanks for the tips guys, I've done the screwdriver and wiggle before. I have some that are stuck pretty good and I figured there was a way to get these off without the chance of damaging chrome or paint.

Just read a tip for this in a magazine. Use an eraser, like we had in school, and a good old can opener. Set the eraser on the body, and use the can opener to pry wiper off, resting on the eraser to prevent damage.

I have some NOS Trico removing tools. Just a U shaped piece of metal that you squeeze and pull them off. 5.00 + the ride.

  20. I've been in the gl*** business 46 years and 1,000's of wipers. I remove 90% with my fingers. the one thing that no one mentioned was lifting the arm all the way up to release the lock tab. no tool will remove the wiper without damage if the arm isn't topped out
