My name is Mike Moore and I live in the hills of Morgan Hill, Calif. I am "waking up" a restored 1963 Chrysler 300H which has slept for 15 years, and hope to get it on the road soon. A big problem I have is that my driveway is very steep and the rear bumper drags going into or coming out of my garage. The vehicle had new springs installed several years ago and rides at the correct height normally. The problem is the huge overhang between the rear axle and the rear bumper. It dawned on me today that a solution might be an air shock or an air lift system. I have been looking at systems and the Air Lift company has a slick air bag device with a wireless controller which looks great-but they don't list my car . I like the idea of a remote wirelesss controller and an onboard compressor. A friend I trust greatly said this is THE place to find a solution from knowledgeable people. Thanks for any advice! Welcome, I used to shoot Sporting Clays in Morgan Hill when I lived in SJ in 2000...and what fun times I had! WELCOME AGAIN.....
Since I posted this problem last summer, I solved THAT problem. I should say, the problem went away when I bought new (correct sized) tires. I now have a new mystery. The 300H idles poorly and hesitates upon acceleration. The carbs were "gone through" by a club member last year. I drained all the gasoline and refueled with 91 Octane gasoline. I installed new points and plugs, as well as ignition cables and coil. Dwell angle was set (39 degrees with both points). I advanced the timing to 12 BTDC just to get the idle speed up to 600 RPM. The Carter AFB's have the byp*** screws out 6-1/2 turns. Idle richness screws are out 2 turns. The engine will not start until the byp*** screws are out 5 turns versus the 2 specified in the manual. When the car gets back from the garage (having the steering box rebuilt), I am planning on shipping the Carters off to Carbs Unlimited in Wa for rebuild on the theory that my fellow club member last year may not have taken them apart after he found the bad accel pump. Any suggestions? I can't get the idle up past 600 and it stumbles on accel.
I have a guy that lives in Salinas who is a carb master! P.M. me if you want his name. It really sounds like a carb issue to me. Total Perf-
