Hello all, I hope my latest ride is not too new for this board. I had a 55 Chevy done up g***er style but sold it in 08 when lost my job. Right now I am redoing a Camaro, most hard stuff is done, new quarters, trunk, floors, wiring, has an 81 454 from a truck, 350 turbo and a 8.5" rear from a Nova with a 4:88 geared posi. I know I have to get something higher and trying to find best mix for some mileage but great 1/4 mile too. I am torn between 3:42 and 3:73. I had a 4:10 in my 55 with a 350 but it really seemed to wind out on country drives, but it was awesome in take offs. Is there a formula someone can use to plug in vehicle weights, tire size, and rear end ratio to get some real estimated results?
Here ya go http://www.richmondgear.com/101032.html But you aren't going to find any love on here for a Camaro. This is pretty much only about Traditional Rod & Customs before say 64
Sit back and enjoy the ride.. Chances ae with enough time spent on here you'll start a hankerin for a earlier rod. Then when funds permit you'll be able to know exactly what and how your gonna do it. Hot rod **** for car guys!!!! Welcome to the H.A.M.B. from Nor Cal and the Cam-Snappers Hot Rod Club! Check out the club group! Love to have ya! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/g...hp?groupid=619
Yeah, what he said, plus if you want to hang, please go do your intro, you will find a little more acceptance if you do that.. Camaro's arent really "traditional", so you wont find many friends here, but, having messed with chevy stuff for a few years,, here is what I know, Big Blocks can pull the gear, 3.42 should be fine, if you're gonna run the qtr mile a lot, go to 3.73's, those 4.88 are gonna break your bank account in tire wear and fuel consumption. how pumped is your 454? compression, cam, intake, carb, exhaust all play into the equation, you didnt elaborate so its hard to throw out suggestions, If the motor isnt too pumped a stock turbo 350 is adequate, what about torque converter, is it stock? I would go with a 2400-2600 stall.. but a trans brake is out of the question unless you put more money into the trans. more info is needed in order to help, you really would be better off looking at a camaro board,, here are couple, I'm sure there are several, just do some googling around. check these out: http://www.z28camaro.com/ http://www.americancamaro.org/club.php good luck
Thanks for the tips on gears, the 454 I have is mostly stock, only headers, edelbrock intake and 750 holley but I plan to add a voodoo cam kit in a few weeks. Sorry my Camaro is too new for some, I just sold a 41 Chevy sedan last year to a buddy at work, and I've been helping my dad with a 39 Chevy he bought last year, and here is a pic of the 55 I had to sell in 08 when I lost my job. (I plan to replace it soon)
hey from Tennessee, I have an O/T 67 Camaro in the garage. Sold my Roadster in January and am also looking for another hot rod.
