Where To Find A Hurst Installation Kit For An Early 60's Toploader?

I've been considering buying a 1964/65 Ford close-ratio toploader, as found in the Ford Fairlane and Sunbeam Tiger. Before I jump the gun and buy it, I've been digging into what would be needed to install it into my 1962 Ford Fairlane. Besides the transmission itself, the hardest piece I've been trying to track down is a Hurst installation kit (part # 530-373-3167) for a Hurst Compe***ion Plus shifter. The problem is that the installation kit (also used in the 1964/65 Ford Galaxie and full-size Mercurys) hasn't been produced for the past few years. Does anyone know where one could be found? I've contacted a couple different Ford parts suppliers but haven't had any luck.

    Thanks!

you might want to go with a Galaxie or Mustang toploader, the Galaxie has the shifter mounting in the same spot i think..the trans. your looking at is kind of an oddball,it might be harder to find a rear slip yoke as its special as well.

The Mustang toploader won't work since the extension housing puts the shifter in the wrong position. A 1964/65 Galaxie toploader will work, it does put the shifter in the right position, although the extension housing is 2" longer. Either way with a 1964-1965 Fairlane or Galaxie toploader, I will need to shorten my driveshaft (the 4-speed is a longer transmission that my 3-speed standard) and change the 25-spline to 28-spline. Both the Fairlane and the Galaxie toploaders share the same installation kit.

    Thanks!

Try wwwdavidkeetoploaders.com this guy was super-helpful putting together an odd-ball application shifter for my stretched model A. I have a 1970 429 application trans and wanted the shifter to mount waayy back towards the tail. he came up with a kit that even used a old style swan neck stick. works perfectly. he's got a lot of neat info on his site as well.

Have you tried Summit Racing? I put a Hurst Compe***ion Plus in my '61 Bonneville (to replace the worn out OEM shifter) and they had the correct shifter and installation kit in stock.

I've looked on David Lee's site and the do list a setup that will work on the Fairlane/Galaxie toploader. They reproduce the kit themselves but is is out of stock. I've also checked Summit Racing and Jegs, they list Hurst installation kits for the 432 and 433 style toploaders, not the 431 style that I need.

    Thanks!

Here's a PDF file I found while searching the part number 373-3167: the installation instructions and part numbers:

    Any more leads?

    Thanks!

I was checking Jegs again and although the parts aren't sold as a kit you can buy pieces separately. Since the Toploader I'm looking at has the arms attached to the transmission, I need the mounting plate (Jegs - $62.99), 1-2 rod ($30.99), 3-4 rod ($32.99) and the reverse rod (not found at Jegs). Does anyone know where I could find a reverse rod for a 1964/65 Fairlane-Galaxie toploader? The Hurst part number for the reverse rod is 530-213-3695.

    Thanks!

I may have the shifter mounting plate, and/or the whole shifter. I'll check when I get to the shop in the morning.

    Hey human flly,

Are you talking about this one?

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4779911

If it is I wouldn't be able to use it because a Mustang toploader's extension housing is different and the shifter/rods wouldn't bolt in the correct position for my Fairlane/Sunbeam toploader.

    Thanks!

    Hey BobbyD,

Have to had the chance to check if you have a 1964-65 Fairlane/Galaxie toploader mounting plate, and/or the whole shifter? Is it a Hurst setup or factory Ford?

    Thanks!

Anyone else know where to find a Hurst installation kit or just for the reverse rod? I've tried to contact Melvin's cl***ic ford parts about the installation kit (they have it listed in their online catalog), but haven't received any response.

    Thanks!

Well I took the plunge and bought the toploader. It appears to be in good shape but I would like to get it checked out. I'm still on the hunt for a Hurst installation kit (part # 530-373-3167), or atleast the reverse rod (part # 530-213-3695).

    Thanks!

Been there done that with this installation kit.The suppliers such as Summit,Jegs ect. show they can get the parts but most are discontinued. The parts are directly ordered from B&M/Hurst.B&M/Hurst will in turn inform the supplier the parts are not availible/discontinued.There is a used Hurst 2816 mounting plate on ebay item # 320653298425.A seller an ebay (hurst-shifters) that has had the mounting plates new in the recent past(he may have other parts, ask).I have heard Pete at Precision Pontiac precisionpontiac.net may have some parts.Dale

The correct part number is 3733167 (without the "530" and the dashes.)

O'Reilly lists it but it doesn't say if they can get it or not.

If you do a Google search on "Hurst 3733167" you'll come up with lots of places to look at.

I sold raw shocks to Mr Gasket in the 80's or early 90's and they were able to put together a Hurst shifter for my Tiger then. I don't know if Mr Gasket is still around or part of something else.

Thanks for the input guys. Little Wing, if you could check that would be much appreciated. I might have found a complete installation kit, of course without the shifter. The price ($250) seems a little high for me compared to other installation kits, but on the other hand they don't make it anymore...

    Thanks!

Hey guys, my name is Jim I am new to the site. I have 2 64 Cyclones, a 64 Caliente HT and a 64 Fairlane Sports Coupe. I am having the same problem looking for the install kit for the Fairlane, While I was searching ebay I found a complete Hust Comp Plus set up for my Caliente still in the original box from 1975. I think if you get every thing seperatly from Jegs it woud be about the same , and there not even saying they can get them. If your not going to get the kit I would be interested in it Thanks, Jim
