Here is a dumb question, but I am not familiar with them so.. Can someone tell me if grille teeth on a 54 interchange from side to side. I am missing the center one and I want to know if I can buy just any one or if it has to be the specific center one. Thanks TJ
If I remember correctly, when I installed them on my 49 Fleetline 53 years ago ..... there were at least three different part numbers I had to order from the Chevy dealer. Left, right and center and there may have been two different sizes on the left and right.
like they said before they are specific to each side and the center. you can buy them seperitly on ebay and a few other sites do a google serch for 54 chevy grille teath and you should find a few places that sell them seperitly.
Thanks for the help. Sucks that I am just missing the middle one. If anyone has one that they want to sell let me know. Chrome doesnt have to be perfect, just as long as it can be rechromed. TJ
check classifieds parts for sale here and put ad in wanted section-the lowrider and custom guys know plenty about these-especially when running 11 teeth.
Should be easy to find extra centers left over. That is what is not used when adding more. Should be way cheaper then left and right.
As I thought, this site says that there were 5 different teeth used in the 54 Chevy grill ..... 1954 Chevy Grill Teeth 1954 Chevy Belair Grill Teeth are numbered 1-5 from the drivers side. #1 is the driver side, and #5 is the passenger side. Teeth can be ordered as the stock set, which is 1 of each of the 5 teeth. Or, if you are going for the custom look, or just need a replacement can be ordered individually. For that custom look of 9 teeth you will need to order the complete set, plus one of each of #1, 2, 4, and 5. The website is The Hot Rod Girl.
wirths custom automotive sells them for $55 same as the hot rod girl might check shipping from both for best deal. just a sugestion.
it might work they fit on a 49. grille isnt much differnt So with out having the parts infront of me i would say, yes? might be worth buying a cheap 54 tooth and seeing if it fits.
You need a #1 tooth. The center tooth is #1. I just put the grill in my 54 and have several extra teeth. Here are some pictures of a #1. It is the only tooth that does not bolt to the top bar.
That's right the center tooth is the only one without the bolt on the top, and the other ones are angled to fit snug on the specific side they were designed for.....I just picked up a whole other complete grill here in Yuma off someone because my parking lamps were too holy for my liking, and then i picked up a few extra teeth here on the H.A.M.B so I am planning on adding an extra six teeth to this nice and shiny grill i just picked up!!!! I'm not sure if this pic is gonna work but if so here is a mock up of the new grill and extra teeth...
The teeth are numbered : Passenger Pk Light----#4-----#2-----#1-----#3------#5-----Driver PK Light larry
Thanks for the help everyone. I guess now Im gonna have to locate the tooth and the upper grill bar. Those seem to be hard to find for some reason. Appreciate you all sharing the information.
With a bit of grinder work you can make a center tooth fit either side as long as you put it close to the center. I have three sets and am putting 15 teeth in my hardtop. The outer two are shorter than the rest.
It also looks like there are shorter teeth in between taller ones. Reminds me of those redneck teeth you could buy .....
