I rode in this car after running in one of the Stout club road rallys and I heard about what was happening to the car. Thrilled to see the car back in the hands of the club and glad Ross didn't start turning it into a cheezy streetrod like his other cars but the lack of a grille and engine really make me mad. It'd be nice if he'd just man up and return the parts like a decent human being but since that's probably not going to happen I hope suitable replacement parts can be found.

So nobody knows this guy to check out where the engine and grill are?
Do you know a police officer that would be willing to knock on the door and ask him where the missing parts are located? It sounds like youre just going to lie down and not pursue it and spend 7K to put the car back together. Where's the hood and radiator?

the hood wasn't attached when we picked it up so we had it in the back of the truck. the radiator and some of the other engine bay stuff are in the trunk of the car. unfortunately the only thing left of the motor are the rails that sit on the valve covers...

The club has the hood, and the radiator was in the trunk. I saw what I think is an adapter plate in the trunk too . . . maybe somebody knows what the heck it's for?

I know what you are getting at, but keep something in mind when you suggest something like this.
First of all if you are the type to do something like this yourself, you are a lower form of scum than the owner of the car.

And if you did something like you suggest yourself or even for suggesting it be done, remember your statement, "pay backs are a BITCH".

If you do what you suggested or even support it being done, in one way or another you will eventually get yours.

Tuck, My dad has a 330 Desoto a runner with a tranny sitting on his garage floor that belongs to a guy in the Cities... Dad sold it to him, but it is a 65k mile original runner, we've had it running on the test stand. its a Firedome, not a fireflite though, and its a 55 i think. So its a 2bbl engine.

im not sure what this guys plans are for it, ill PM you his name. Maybe hed be interested in selling it? Other than that i hope you guys can get this figured out.

I went over to the perp's website and noticed that he has his phone number posted. I think it would be a nice gesture to call and thank him for returning the 'Dome.

Just curious. I graduated from Stout (Industrial Ed.) in 1971. When did this car club start?
I recall the yearly raffle for when the car would fall through the ice on Lake Menomonie. Was that a club function?

the club officially started in 1962. The car out on the ice has always been done by the lions club to my knowledge.

I had a bad feeling about that looser. Ross was just waiting for the day the club was hurting to steal the dome. Thanks Tuck for posting this. I know that Mike Rosenow has a grill... Needs a chrome job. I know of a 331 to rebuild...

Hmmm... Do you or the club have the serial number off of the original motor anywhere?

May be worth going over to his place and asking him again where the motor is and, if he sticks with his story, see if he'd let you have a look around. If he's reluctant or tells you to go pound salt, you can bet your bottom dollar that it (or what's left of it) is somewhere on the premises. A cop with a warrant with serial number in hand would get to the bottom of that. "Oh, you mean THAT Hemi..."

Does he have a customer list? Any chance he could have swapped the motor into a customer car?

Finally, with swap season coming up, wouldn't hurt to make up some flyers that say "331 Hemi, serial # XXXXXXXXXXXX, belonging to this car (picture of car), last seen in the possession of Ross, engine is stolen - please call XXX-XXX-XXXX if you have any info, thanks, Stout Auto Club."

Tuck....I know you're trying to be level headed about the situation,but the guy brings the heat on himself!. Seems to me he doesn't care about other people and the guys who have enjoyed the car and what it stands for. I wouldn't defend this Ross guy for one minute. I'm a firm believer that reputation is EVERYTHING! And HE brought this on himself.

Good luck on getting her back on the road. Sounds like Povertyflats might be your best resource.
