Freezin' my **** up here lately- had a couple of warm days but nothing serious so far. But, I've never posted my project or progress on here so I thought I'd do a quick build thread for my fellow hambers. I've had the car for a couple of years and I work on it when time and money allow. Here she is the day she came home: Tearing into the front end... ...to install the Mustang II front end.... ... swapped the rear end out (did that alone, that was fun) ... ...found the evil that lurks under the bondo... ...patched and repaired... ...on both sides... ...and peaked the hood... ...put the motor in... But then another winter came and I had to stuff by little project into a garage way too small for it to fit in. I had to pull the front end apart for it to fit! ...and that brings us up to this winter, more or less I've been picking away at getting the motor all set up. I'm planning on shaving the door handles and maybe frenching the headlights (undecided at this point)... but all that can come after it runs and drives on it's own.
I cant wait to see this thing done. I love these old chevs. I know there never done. Even when your driven them.
Not a problem. First, I took off the bullnose strip and sanded down to metal. Then I welded in 1/4" round stock while contouring it to the hood. You've gotta go really slow to avoid warping the metal. Tacked it in about every 6 inches alternating sides and moving around, then split the distance from opposite ends. Here's a shot of the tacks. I wish I'd taken more photos during, but I get into a sort of trance when I'm working on it. My troubles melt away... Once it was welded in completely, I just used some short-strand filler to smooth everything out. I would have used lead... but like I said earlier, I'm hacking my way though it I've sinced frenched the headlights too... I haven't mounted the fenders, I'm doing some motor/clutch linkage work in the next few weeks and left the frame rails exposed to make things easier on me.
