MickeyC here from deep in the bayou, now in the great white North! Monticello Minnesota to be exact. There seems to be a large amount of white stuff on everything. "Not to worry, it will go away sometime" they tell me. " Will it be gone in time for crawfish season?" I ask. Anyway I was wondering about hamb members or activities in the area. The pursuit of cold hard cash in the form of nuclear power plant repair brings me up here. I am looking for something to p*** a little spare time the off days I have. Last time I was up this way in Red Wing I went to a farm power and culture show near Hastings. This was late summer and was a really nice event. Also a few good out door car shows. I thank you for any tips.
hastings usually holds shows by the river/ bridge on thursdays I think. usually been interesting the couple times I have been there. of course theres back to the 50's- never miss that one.. then theres jefferson in wis. and iola shows.. grand rapids always has one the end of july I think.. I always go but just wait for my sister to call and remind me of it so cant say 4 sure when it is.... course u gotta wait for summer 4 these ones. but there are usually a few shows at the convention center during the winter/ spring times..... and monticello isnt really concidered the great white north in these woods
Minnesota Motorama is coming up, check it out. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=555139&highlight=minnesota+motorama
One of the Best Swap meets I have ever been to in my life at the State Fair grounds in St. Paul. I always check for dates and pray for a meeting up there at the same time.
Every other saturday night in Hastings there is always a pretty big cruise on main street. It's always a good time cruising little ole main street.
There will be cruise nights during the week in Becker,Big Lake,Buffalo and Elk River. Plus there are many shops within a 1/2 hour drive. Send me a private message and I will send you a copy of the MSRA Linechaser which lists all the cruise ins and shows all over the state.
Jeez, MickeyC, it should be gone by the 4th of July. I worked at Prairie Island in the 70s (house chem/hp tech) and we were "lent out" to do refuelings at Monticello. First year I was in Red Wing, we had to put winter coats and mittens on the kids to go to the Memorial Day parade. But those cold winters mean they build a lot of great cars out there, hook up with Hemi Joel and see if you can get some garage tours. I remember the MSRA year book from the 70s and seems like every member listed had a dozen or more cars! Just tap into the local scene, great guys, great cars.
MickeyC, It sounds like Hemi Joel is sending you an invitation to hook up for some car stuff. You should be aware that one of his daily summertime drivers is a Deusenberg Roadster. Check out his videos on You Tube. Don't miss out on this opportunity! Like every other kid in the neighborhood, my granddaughter has piled in his roadster for rides around "Back to the 50's" and local parades. It's great to see a car of this caliber treated as a car and not a museum piece. There is a car show every Saturday night in Anoka, MN, which is about 35 minutes from Monticello. It draws approximately 300 to 600 cars, or more, depending on the weather. I drive right through Monticello on my way to Anoka. I'd be glad to pick you up on the way.
The World of Wheels show is THIS weekend. We will be in the Minnesota Motorama section with our mufflers and some new car part products. Stop by and say Hi. Another note, the GSTA show in beginning of April is always a good time. Less expensive to get in and free parking. It's at the Minnesota State Fair Colliseum. We will be at this show too.
