Slang term for running little and big wheel diameters?

I remember a time when guys used the term 'staggered" to describe smaller diameter wheels on the front than the rear. Now it's used to strictly describe the width of the wheel.

Is there a slang term for folks who like to run with one one size wheel on the front and a larger wheel on the rear? And no, it's not stupid.

I always heard "big n littles" to describe that, actually for the last 30+ years.

big and littles is all I have ever called it
stagger is on a race car from side to side to make it turn
The car in the I picture I would call trendie and not at all my style or "2011 traditional"

  4. Um hot rod? I mean it is a pretty common place word today and it covers a lot of territory but there was a time when someone said hot rod and the vision that came to ones head had bigs n littles.

The term "Big-n-littles",refers to tires. Not necessarily the rims. But,I guess it could mean that too.
"stagger",means running a larger dia tire on the outside,to help you turn left. Ala-Dirt cars.
"Rubber Rake",is also another way of taking an otherwise, level car,and either raising the rear or lowering the front by using different size tires.

I agree that the common usage is "big 'n littles" and that, if you are a roundy round racer, "staggered" is applied to the side to differences in tire/wheel diameter. However, 'staggered' also is the correct technical term for tires of a different diameter from front to rear. As stated/suggested by the OP, the 'slang' term differs from the technical term.

  22. Dumped. Said it yesterday about a nice A roadster in my screensaver. I didn't know a nice hotrod from a shotrod not too long ago, or a coldrod.

  23. Big n' Littles always produced a "Rake" in my neck of the woods...I've also heard of a California "Tilt".....although probably never in California...:)

Yeah, but luckily enough my Internet security closed down the page before I got a good long look at that Street Rod and had it burned into my retinas for ever.:p
