Judging by the linked photo I think the OP was referring to different rim diameters, i.e. in a sense the opposite of a rubber rake.

I don't know of a term for that practice. It seems to be a billet thing and to my eyes the same sidewall height on different sized rims make the tyres on the bigger rims look too delicate compared to the other.

  5. I had always thought and referred to the " California " tilt or rake as in the roof chop. Like my 26 is chopped 4 1/2" front and 2 1/2" in the rear. Not sayin I'm right, just sayin.....................:D

Based on the infected pic. the OP referred to, I don't think he is looking for the term Bigs and Littles, or anything at all from the past. I think the term is gay oversized rubberband hoops, or something like that. And stagger has nothing to do with the width of a tire, it refers to the height difference between 2 tires. Or, wow after seeing that picture you referred to, I had to "stagger" away from the computer....

I would suggest there has evolved a lot of confusion regarding terms from back in the day. California "rake' or "tilt" originally referred to the West Coast cars typically being lower in the front than the rear. That may or may not have been accomplished with tire sizes alone, but more often included a dropped axle or lowered front suspension as well. That was in contrast to the typicall East Coast and Mid West style of lowering the rear of the car more than the front, i.e. "tail draggers".

The term "dago'd" referenced a dropped front axle, which I believe is thought to have originated in the San Diego area......typical speech habits slurred the short form Diego into Dago.........

I could be mistaken about some of these observations, but I've been reading the mags since the mid 50's and while I sometimes can't remember what I had for lunch, the stuff I learned in those days seems very clear and easy to recall.

Big n' littles - but doesn't always equate to a rake - look at the street freaks and g***ers, it's all in the at***ude.
