Flip side of the coin: My buddy says he wants to unload his old stock-car 32 five window with a model A frame. I fully expect to find a torched out A-bone but my $750 bought this.
Gotta follow up on all "32 ford" claims.

  2. Well there ya go.
I'm real pleased that you know the difference between a duece and a Model A. Looks like everything turned out well on all accounts.

Well other than the wasted trip.

I drove 4 hours across Kansas once to look at a Chrysler Windsor that had a funny looking V-8 in it. The guy described the V-8 and I knew it wasn't a hemi but the price was right.

No rust and I could drive it home. Well it didn't have any rust because everywhere it would have been rusty was cut out, nice cuts BTW. I was there so I fixed the stuck brake because I was damned sure going to drive it after I got there. I filed the points and jumped it to get it started, it did have some gas in it. 3 tires were thread bare and one was so thin you could see the air in it.

But I guess I could have driven it home with tires and a luck. I didn't buy it because it was pink and I didn't want to paint it.

    True story.

If I could count all the time & miles wasted looking at cars that were supposed to be. I don't usually say anything at the time as I am on their turf. But I have been known to send an e-mail or a phone call to voice my dissapointment. Even been told never to call again..lol I just don't why people can't be upfront and honest to begin with instead of leading you down that garden path.

Been there, done that many times! Welcome to the "Wild Goose Chase" Club! The ratio is about 99 to 1 in my experience - 99 wild goose chases to 1 finding gold. But if you don't you won't find anything. I don't have the 32's that I've collected for not trying!

  7. I actually remember a REAL one like that. I was in the Air Force, stationed at March AFB. Buddy of mine was looking for cheap transpo to move off base, answered a one-liner in the LA Times.. "67 Chevy, 2 door, manual trans, $1,000" (this was in 1972 or so)
Thinking it was probably a Biscayne with a 6 and 3 on the tree, he went to look at it.
Turns out it had belonged to the ladie's husband, who had just p***ed away... doctors had told him "6 months if you're lucky; a year if you're not" and he went to the Chevy dealership and bought a 67 Vette, Tri-power 435 horse 427, "manual trans" 4 speed, with all the bells and whistles... he p***ed away about 7 months after he got it, and she couldn't push in the clutch, or steer the car, so she couldn't drive it, and wanted to make room in the garage so she could get her Impala in there. Rick ( my buddy) tried to explain to her what it was, and that it was worth WAY more than her asking price (remember, this was in CA during odd/even gas rationing) but she didn't care. She wanted it GONE, apparently it was a bone of contention between her and her late hubby that he had bought it at all. I *heard*him coming back onto the base with it, and I couldn't believe it, but he had the car, the signed ***le, the current registration with all matching numbers, and a bill of sale from the lady...
If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes and ears, and ridden in that 'Vette for a few years afterwards, I wouldn't have believed it....
Yeah, I know, it's post '64, but I think most guys will understand the O/T car....

As a long time 32 Ford guy ... I have went to look at DOZENS of cars that were suposed to be 32 Fords and they were something else. :( Most were Model A's. Years ago I had a guy call me wanting to sell his Model A coupe. Old hot rod. He told it had a 32 grill shell ... big tires and looked sort of like the American Graffitti coupe. He was getting a DIVORCE and the wife got the house. The coupe had to go.

He called a few times and kept lowering the price. I told him I was not interested in Model A's. He called again and said it had to be moved by the next day. He dropped the price so drastically I had to go look. SURPRISE ... SURPRISE ... it was a 32 Ford 5W coupe ... on a 32 frame with a Model A ***le. I generally will not buy a vehicle without a ***le ... but I made a exception this time.

The 5W is long gone ... and now a running, driving full fender street rod. But some of the extra parts I got with it are still here ( fenders, hood and such ) :D :D

guy in Prosser (WA) called a buddy of mine about a 32 Ford that his granddad had taken apart and then p***ed away. Would he come and get it and just remove it? He called me (I had a good 2axle trailer at the time) to help. it was in a fairly clean detached garage and when we walked in we knew we were going to get our honesty tested....it was a Duesenburg sedan....all there, but diss***embled as stated. We told the guy what it was, and then called a well-known cl***ic guy out of Seattle and he sent someone the next day - paid the guy a handsome sum, a little bit of which he shared with my buddy - who was kind enough to take me to dinner. Seattle guy put it back together and sold it. Dunno where it is now...but it's certainly in the hands of the right folks...although, I guess Duane and I could have maybe put a Hemi in there...then C'd the frame...dropped axle......

Randy, that reminds me of the painful story of a beautiful 1932 Ford Woody that I missed and still kick myself today for! My trimmer (did my interior work) told me his neighbor who lived behind him (who happened to be the former mayor, a real ***hole who I didn't like) had a Woody that was either a Model A or maybe a 32. Since I didn't like the guy I never checked it out only to find out some guys from Des Moines came up and bought it for $28000!! It turned out to be cherry old Model B '32 Woody!! @&^#$^%@

Hey, I saw that ad on C-list and thought too good to be true ... I once drove 2 hours to look at a 66 Corvette advertised as clean and runs good ... when I got there the body was a mess and the engine was suspended from the branch of a tree with a come along ready to be lowered in the car ... I thought there must be another corvette but no that was it ... I didnt say a word, just turned around and got into my car and drove off.
