Going to attend for the first time. Been wanting to attend the show for years but living in the SW and now NW made that difficult. Got a break two weeks ago when a customer wanted me to attend a meeting in Chicago and on a Friday. Decided to take advantage of the free ride to Chicago on the companies dime and bought a ticket from Chicago to Detroit and back. it was cheaper for the company by a few dollars since the flight is now over the weekend. Get into Detroit around 5pm Friday night so I might try to get to the show that night for a few hours and then I plan to spend all day Saturday there.. flying home at 6am on Sun.. so its a quick trip. Looking forward to attending. any thing I need to know. (still working on my hotel) but plan to rent a little car.. is there parking at the event or near by?? Looking forward to seeing the Ridler contenders and the ba*****t.. camera will be charged.
I'll be there Saturday with my wife and two girls. It's not hard to find parking. We usually park at a $5 lot a couple blocks away. Not a big deal. Look for me. I'll have a Nightmares Flint t shirt on and I'll have the three prettiest girls there with me!
I will be easy to spot, probably the only guy wearing a purple ballcap backwards with a Gold W on it (Univ of Washington school colors). has to be backwards to not interfere with the camera..
I have a drop off 3 miles away and wont bother.....it ****ed last year. I can look at rusted junk in maine.
If you get a hotel they might have airport servce to and from the airport so you don't have to rent a car saves the company money that way to. Just my 2cents. All you need is rite there there is another thread on here about things to do or see while in detroit or look up hotrodladycrusier she is the lady with all the info.
Boones- If you are in Chicago, you can easily take the train (Amtrak) from downtown Chicago (Union Station) to the Detroit train station which is about a 6.00 cab ride to Cobo hall and the nearby hotels that you can walk to.
You can park at the show, or anywhere around downtown and ride the People(mugger) Mover to Cobo. Admission is a little pricey at $30, but it's absolutely worth every penny. Cameras are not charged. Be sure to check out the ba*****t and some of the area attractions like A****er Block Brewery, The Detroiter, Pizza Papalis and our personal favorite, Bouzouki's
You are gonna have the time of your life. I was able to go a few years ago and it was one of my favorite experiences- ever. Get yourself onto the GM heritage center tour as well.
Really?!?! I haven't see you in FOREVER! This is great news! Too bad you can't join us earlier Friday for the GM Heritage tour You've got to make it to Denise's party Saturday night! We've called for and had taxi pick ups to the airport Sunday morning while her party was STILL going on!
Ridler's upstairs,.... Diddler's downstairs Spoil sport ! I'll be making the 2-1/2 hour drive down on Wednesday night,... and the return trip (aka, "The blood shot express") on Sunday night. Obviously you never made it past the parking lot and into Cobo,... the 5 bucks you paid was for parking,... not the entrance to the show,.... follow the signs into Cobo this year,.... Not only is there some of the finest rolling stock on the planet inside,... But theres also heat and lights and flooring inside the show,.... This is how you know, your not walking around the parking lot.
....and if you go to Canada to see some ***ties, make sure you have your p***port to get back into the U.S.
Boones, how's that Dodge woodie comin?...Last I heard the 48 aero went to the opposite end of the country from you...Florida. Have a good time at the show.
rooftop parking at Cobo is the easiest--just follow the signs, You can leave your jacket in the car, and run to the doors. there is also the People Mover to get you there. It has a stop inside Cobo Hall, and it is a 50 cent ride from many locations around town. wear your most comfortable walking shoes
This will be my first year and I am driving my old rusted junk all the way up from Houston to get a good parking lot in the ba*****t. Stop by and see me in the artist gallery that way if you see me walking down the street you can give me a ride
