I am going to be looking at these carbs this weekend and was wondering if someone could give me some insight as to what to look for (besides the 97 logo) to make sure they are 97's. I only have one good picture to go by hope this helps. I tried searching for anything to help me figure it out but all I got was that they are either 97's or 48's It a couple hours drive to where they are so if anyone can id them from this picture it would be a huge help to me Thanks for any and all help
The one in the center has a "48" throttle arm and choke shaft. The right side carburetor has an 81/97 throttle arm and choke lever. Can't see the left carb too well, but looks like 81/97 stuff. You don't want to see a "1/1/32" on the right side of the center section. Keep in mind, not all "97s" have the logo. Later replacements sometimes have a blank circle. These will have Elmira NY cast into the bowls as opposed to South Bend.
Wow that was quick I was looking at another thread on here and it shows the patent numbers cast on the side of the bowl. my question is do only the 97’s have the numbers and the rest (81's & 48's) just say U.S.A patent with no numbers Here is the thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72029 The three pictures I am talking about are right at the top
Thanks for all your help I have a picture showing the other side but its really small I cant pick any detail out of it but maybe you guys can make something of it
IF THERE IS NOT EITHER A LARGE OR SMALL 97 ON THE SIDE, LOOK ON THE OTHER SIDE. A 97 will have 31/32 on the linkage side of the center section. Which is .97 of an inch, thus a 97. The 48 will have 1 and 1/32. They flow a little more cfm than the 97 because of the larger venturi. Other wise they are both the same, as far as I can tell.
