Mocking up your car and centering axles.....

Always do this with the fenders on and just center the wheels, right? Works great if your fenders are fairly straight. Not so good if your fenders are rough and the wheels are no longer centered after the fenders are bodyworked. So, spend a couple hours straightening fenders, aligning running boards, etc before you lock in your axle locations.

Always give and get a receipt when buying or selling anything.
Always put AS-IS on the receipt and make sure the buyer knows it.
Always assume it is in worse condition than pictured or the seller tells you.

When removing a gas tank to see whats wrong with the sending unit, do not let the gas tank fall off the stand onto the shop light. kaablooie!

Even if your just going to look under the car, use safety glasses. Having sand, dirt or rust fall in your eyes sucks.

A ford 9" from a big 70's car will work in a 67-72 truck / blazer, but the pinion is off set about 1.5 " and will cause a noticable vibration at 55mph that will probably screw up the new gears, the transmission or rip out a U joint. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Along with that, never put a drain plug in a pan unless you have the wrench to tighten it in the other hand at the time.

My learned the hard way lesson usually has been, The bigger the hammer the more your thumb on the other hand hurts when you hit it.

Never have a body shop do a restoration on your car, even if its a friend. Somehow you always end up at the bottom of the list.

Make sure the flexplate is on the motor when you put it in the car, and not on the workbench.

2 Carb bolts are not strong enough to pick up a 455 Buick motor and tranny.

gas tank filler necks have enough fumes to actually light on fire... in a big way.

gawd... I'm lucky to be alive.

When doing major body work, like panel replacement, step way back and look at the car. Amazing what you see sometimes after it's too late.

When using compressed air to remove a stuck caliper piston, it is best to not do it near a fresh paint job.
A pressurized gas tank is not a good substitute for a fuel pump on a drag car when a float sticks open. It is a good idea to disconnect your coil when you pull the plugs and crank the engine to expel fuel in the cylinders from the stuck float. Your fire extinguisher is never as big as you need when the fire starts.
Read the label warnings on the gallon can of carb cleaner.

Just because you have a c-4 trans doesn't mean that all the parts will match. The flex plate and torque converter and bell housing. Hit the key and zing!!!

Make sure the beer in the garage is always just out of reach when actually working on the car or truck, but always within reach when the wife walks in to nag on when I'm coming inside.

As soon as you throw away a part or sell it, that means you will probably need it back on down the road, no matter how obscure or uneccessary it seems at the time, Also, never say never.:D
