The Chevy Vegas weren't much better...My father had a '72 Vega GT, and after driving it through only one western New York winter, the front fenders already had rust holes.......and the muffler had rusted out, the head gasket had blown. You know, the usual stuff for a car with 7-8 thousand miles on it!!

You used to get a case for every lap you lead at the Modified Race of Champions at Pocono

Is Bugsy holding a full-face helmet here? If so, it would have been one of the first in the Northeast.

I don't think so. It's just the way he's holding it, looks to me like a dark helmet with a white stripe down the middle and a white visor.

Question for Bullfather....is that Norwood? or is my mind playing tricks on me?

The white piece is a visor. He wore open-faced helmets for most of his career.

I agree with Denny .. a dark open face helmet with a white stripe down the middle and a white visor.

    And the answer is...

The dark line under the white visor in the original photo wasn't the bottom of a full-face helmet, but the smoked plastic strip that he often wore attached to the visor.

That is Jerry "Red" Klauss in the 171. Jerry was the first driver of Tony Gorcinski's # 7 and finished second to Charlie Jarzombek in a 100 lap race at Islip one night. As recall, the next Saturday night Jerry was out, Tom Baldwin was in the car and the rest is history. Betcha' Jerry was caught by surprise.
