Ive bought about 6 cars from the usa to fremantle western australia, i usually buy off ebay or from a dealer as most other sellers such as on craigslist automatically think your trying to scam them. Which i personally dont understand, a wire transfer takes usually 24hrs and i doubt that someone can steal money from your account (they cant from an australian bank) The buyer is usually the one that gets scammed, sending money for a car they havent seen in person . I always phone a seller before I send money just for peace of mind for both partys (selling/buying scammers usually wont use a phone)
All the buyer requires is a bill of sale, copy of ***tle, original has to stay with vehicle for customs clearance in the usa. This is done after you recieve payment in full . The import approval is given to almost any vehicle by the Australian government as long as its built before 1989 and is up to the buyer to obtain. Its the buyers responsibility once the car is in Australia to see if it meets his states registration laws. worst case scenario he might have to put a blueflame back in.
This info was correct the last time i shipped a car 4 months ago.
All you USA car sellers if you dont sell to people overseas you are missing out on a easy method and probaly a way of making more money on a car. check out Ebay motors over half now sell worldwide.

Well make your vote count tomorrow, that may help.
I am sure it will all cleared up just when the dollar takes a dive so it may not be so worth while importing then.

And Please remember , Aussies aren't all ripoff merchants so when we buy the next stock cl***ic from the USA use your gut feeling and offer us a little trust without getting ripped off and make some new Worldwide Hotroddin' buddies . We hear some horror stories from the cars coming out of the USA but when people don't do their homework they get caught by the lowlife s*** that is the Dodgy salesman , but we don't brand all US citizens the same so please don't think that of all Aussies :D

  5. why 1989? why not 1983? or 1995? I sold my 35 ford to a guy in Australia and did not feel like i was being scammed. open up another account at your bank just for the wire transfer if that makes you feel better. The cars that are being shipped back to the US, are they being sold?

  6. Agreed.

The risk is hugely bigger for the buyer.
He sends money and has nothing.
The seller has car and money.
Sellers should feel OK about selling overseas.
Just make sure you have the car that you are
selling us and it is as described.. :)

getting ripped off is a two way street i know of two guys that have been ripped off by yanks one was buying a cady and when it showed up was a completly diffrent car to the one he had seen .The other onewas for a crate engine that was fully paid for (a well known peforemance engine company that has gone bust) after the deals were done and money changed hands sellers were uncontactable.
Just remember that it is a long way for us ausies to go to knock on your door and ask for our money back,so a little trust goes a long way on both parts.

Thats right with a copy of ***le and a bill of sale that should be all they need. And for a copy of license thats **** dont send that they dont need a copy of it. If they need your bank and account and all that thats fine for the finaly pay. Good luck Dont give out anything if your not sure and make copies of everything.

Many of the Politicians are well aware of the situation now and some of those have been made aware just how it affects many in the industry. Change is happening slowly.
