Thought I'd post these back up again. I did these a few years ago with footage I have that I will be using in a documentary I'm working on about the history of drag racing in Minnesota. Anyways, this footage is from Minnesota dragway and Twin Cities dragway starting in the 50's and up to the late 60's. I plan on hitting the documentary heavy this spring and summer, so if anyone has footage or pics they would like to contribute that would be great. Anyways, here are the videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuK10_bkvTA&feature=player_profilepage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STph-HAXGLc
Thank you! Some great footage there. I wish the "editor" had held some of the shots longer;I wondered what happened to the white coupe with the wobbly wheel in the second vid?
Hey Al, I know what your saying, but this was edited to the music and to be perfectly honest with you, this was shot on 8mm and some of the good shots only had a few seconds of steady, usable footage. There were a lot of shots that were only the launch or the end of the race, bummed me out too, as I wanted to see the full runs also. The documentary I'm working on will have way more long/full run shots of this footage.
I'm with you there, I especially love this song. I saw Jeff open for BB King awhile back and was completely blown away!
sadly thats the way we used to film with the old 8mm. Hurried, shaky, shots, because we would be out of footage real quick. and then you had find a dark area to change film with out exposing it too much.
...another reminder of the days when most cars were home-built, when guys raced for trophies, when you smoked the tires half way down the track, where there were many kinds of engines (Buicks, Olds, Dodge, flatheads), when there were classes like "competition coupe," or "modified roadster," when most bodies were metal, and when it was FUN!
I just want it known that my comments were in no way a criticism. Those are way too cool, and I sincerely welcome many more. Wish I had some to contribute. Thanks again;I've watched them a few times already.
the B/GAS unblown willys shown briefly is our old car!!!!!!! i have no moving pictures of that car!! you could have knocked me over with that one. as an aside , it is now the dennis the menace car in lake havasu,az.
Hey, do you have any early 70's footage? I would kill for a vid of my '56 Nomad running. I bought it in the early 70's. The car came out of Red Wing. He ran it at both tracks. Look for a baby blue and white '56 Nomad on chrome slots, nosed, back quarter windows full of stickers.
Which video? I can see if I have more shots of it and maybe throw them on DVD for you if you want? I think there is some early 70's stuff, what was the paint scheme on the car?
Is this the Willys? Pretty freakin' cool. By coincidence, Jeff Beck is playing here in Austin Apr. 5, 2011: http://www.songkick.com/concerts/7360011-jeff-beck-at-austin-city-limits-live-moody-theater That's right, Lonestar Roundup Weekend! Apr.1-3, 2011. http://www.lonestarroundup.com/ That would be a killer ending to the week.

At the "Hot Rod Reunion" a few years back in, Hinkley MN, they showed movies shot by a guy I crewed for 66-68. His were also Super 8. I've been trying to get a copy from him as there were pictures of my '50 Olds M/P Gas coupe making a few passes on it. It is dark blue with white wheels. I ran DMP/A or EG/A. Car ran powder puff too. I've tried to contact him and offered to pay to have it converted to DVD, but I get no reply. Have you seen anything resembling my Olds in you archive?
You wouldn't happen to have an pics of it? If you did it would help try to see it in the footage I have, otherwise if I get a chance I'll scan through it to see if I can spot it. What was the guys name with the footage, maybe I know someone who knows him.
