Went to go get a windshield for a 52 olds with a friend, came home with an FED. I thought it an altered at first look. The body i think is a bantum (sp) came with a few parts, no motor, trans. Don't know much about them, but very excited about learning a lot on this project!!

wow! excellent find!! hope that you will finish it off and go racing. if on a poor man's budget stuff a beater motor, etc in it and put in back yard just to fire up and let the headers glow.

I'm no expert but.....that's Not a front engine dragster. Maybe a modified roadster but I would guess it'd be considered an altered.

The rear axle is in the wrong location.

It's not a true "slingshot" FED. But, it's a "dragster" in racing sense. It's really an altered. Looks to be about a 100 inch WB car. Definitely pretty cool. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Yeah, I notice the axle is in a funky position. I will post better pics with the body off. I'm thinking a SB with fuel injection might be fun.

Very nice. Good luck with rebuilding it

  12. So what's it's story?
Was this a never finished or has any part of it ever been a runner?
It's gotta get a hemi or a nailhead would be cool too!
BTW-Having lived in Phx the first 20 something years of my life; I regognize your neighborhood, at least sort of (lol) - I suppose a more correct way of looking at it is the architecture by way of the period. Phoenix grew out like ripples on a pond and the homes evolved as the ripples expanded. I know blah, blah, blah -
Should we watch here forupdates or will you start a new thread?

  13. Blown nail heads! Just bench racin' but I'm thinkin' a smart little nail head like this with those zoomie-upper kinda like tubes on Ivo's car

  14. Very cool find and even cooler ride, but that front suspension scares me.

Its an altered, a Bantam altered, not a FED. Doesn't change the fact that its very cool and a great score!

no expert here, but looks like an engine fire at one time burnt the paint off those rails.

The story is, I went down with a friend to look for a 52 olds windshield for him. There is a guy out here that sells vintage parts, and has a bad *** yard full of great cars. He also builds hot rods and customs and the yard is basically for his builds. The altered was sitting on top for a 40 Ford frame. I asked him if it was for sale, he said yep. He said $1,600 was the lowest he would go. I said sold, and brought it home. It was one of those I don't need it, but to good to p*** up. The guy who previously owned it was building a blown inline six, but lost interest. No history or anything. The parts it came with are a shorten Ford 9" with full spool, old moon pedal with linkage, master brake cylinder, engine mounts. The front end is a 57 Metropolitan

Cool and a great way to build a low budget racer if you want to. I'm not sure what part of the front end was Metropolitan but I don't think the 55 ragtop I had had torsion bar suspension.

That thing would be fun with just about any engine in it.

And thats all that matters, just make sure you "CAN" run it before you spend any more money.

There is going to be a HERITAGE race at Speedworld first weekend of March, bring it over and have Tech look at it and tell you what it needs or if its even close to being legal (ch***ie wise)

A buddy of mine had one like that n the late 70's. 427,powerglide and was it squirrely. Another buddy bought it in the 80's and found about 500 pounds of lead in the cage and rails.

Kind of wished I had it.

Cool! Without looking too close, it looks like it could be an early FED frame cut hacked and repurposed as an altered. That rear end mounting looks to be definitely aftermarket... It would be cool to know it's history and where it came from.

    Chip,
That's we thought to, but it looks clean. The front end is pretty narrow. I'll get some dimensions tomorrow.

Ivo and Nancy had a lot of success with tug boat motors.

Cool find. Eagerly awaiting its first run!
