Ok I'm at the point of putting these 40 ford Juice brakes back together. The only thing I can't seem to get appart is the wheel cylinders. I was told to soak them with some WD-40 and let them sit for a few days then to take a press and press out the centers from the small side out to the big side(if that makes sense) Was I mislead, because I have pressed in the small side thinking it will get past a certain point in the middle and all the innerds will slide out the big side, However; I can't get past the middle point of the wheel cylinder. ??? thanks Tqz
if you have to press them apart then i'll bet there to rusted and pitted to rebuild, arent they $20 new?
Damn, just called carquest....$76 each...I know there are some guys on here who have paid more like $40 each. I think from napa. Just thought I would try to rebuild. I'm going to try and put more pressure on the press and see what happens. Tqz
it should press out the small side to the large side , there is nothing to hold it back except rust. you might as well give it a try , you have nothing to lose. in my opinion there is a slim chance they are OK and will probably be junk. if there is any pitting i'd toss them Mac's has USA made ones for $41.95
yep....more pressure worked(got everything out and crushed). The only thing pitted is the outer 1/8 the rest of the the cylinder I can hone. The only thing is, the rebuild kit doesn't come with the large and small aluminum caps or the the two washer looking things inside that cylinder(atleast there washer looking now that they have been pressed flat. $42 at macs might be the better ticket in the long run. Thanks guys Tqz
is there really a reason you cant use a normal wheel cylinder, same size both sides, early dodge, gm brakes use a normal wheel cylinder?
And the #1 reason IS ! Early Ford is a non self energizing brake and needs the stepped cylinders to work properly.
early dodge and gm brakes are non self energizing, the only difference is the wheel cylinders are not stepped.
Budd; I know that but they are a different design. GM are Huck and Mopar are a different design of Lockhead using 2 single ended WC per wheel as I recall.
