  2. Get well, Sam
I have had the pleasure of comparing notes and showing off some of my art with your Son here in Detroit - While not having had the pleasure of meeting you, I am told your son is a lot like his Dad - its all good. Chip is a wonderful guy, I'm bett'n he learned it all from you!!

Sam has always been one of my all-time favorites. One of the BEST builders/body men you'd find ANYWHERE !

IF you don't know about Sam's History & the superb Rods & Kustoms he's put together through the years, please take the time to do some research and learn about him.

I spent some real quality time with him at Starbird's in 2003 and we talked about many of his great builds...including that wild '57 Chevy that he turned into a convert about 15 years ago. A cover car for sure...it also made the cover of Hot Rod at that time (showing Sam with a tommy gun and calling him the Rod Father !).

Chip TRULY learned from one of the most talented customizers/rodders that ever wielded a dolly or lit a torch. Although when I talked to Sam about that at the time he downplayed that element and said that Chip had gone way beyond what he (Sam) had accomplished. I told him he was being way too modest...and I'm sure Chip would agree.

Here's wishing you a complete & full recovery Sam...spending that afternoon talking cars, and ideas for new projects with you was one of the highlights of that entire trip ! I remember it well and think about your kindness & honesty, and contribution to the Industry for SO many years.

PLUS, the later-work you did on fins of Roger's '57 Eldo, that Steve Stanford penned design-wise, is as perfect today as when you first did it !

(Below is a pic of Sam and myself taken out on the Showfield at Darryl's in June of 2003.)

I went over to see him today, he was starting to feel better, but then caught a cold. So his breathing is tough. He has a gizmo to breath through ten times an hour to help build up his lungs.

Sam is doing great and he and I both appreciates all the thoughtful messages and prayers. He did not have a heart attack it was congestive heart failure but the great Doctors at Scripps took super care of him and indeed he is home.

    Hi Kevin,
We also think of you often. So happy to hear from you again. Come see us when we are at the Wheels and Waves show in Santa Barbara or the Wheels and Windmills in Solvang. Our Granddaughter is having a car show in Lompoc May 7th for her senior project. All proceeds will go to The Progeria Research Foundation in honor of our little Amy. I'm sure you remember Amy. Would love to have you join in the fun at her show.
