The car in this thread is Bluey Boxell's creation the 'Airbourne Eight', out of Western Sydney. It's been a long project he and a few blokes have been working on for about six or so years (most of the time was spent finding all the bits he wanted).. Blue has been driving & showing a V8 powered, chopped Volkswagon beetle he built in the 80's and has used it every day for his t-shirt & trophy business on the road since! It's clocked up half a million k's !! With this new creation he wanted to produce a car seen from the prospective of a futuristic car as originally thought of in the 1930's and slowly built from parts used from the 30's through to the 60's. This thing is built out of over 60 different pieces of cars!! If you knew Blue, you'de understand that he follows no rules or styles and builds what he wants and doesn't give a rat's what people think, he sticks to his gun's and ends up with what he wanted. During the end of the build, Gene Winfield when he was out here had a private viewing of it (this car was under wraps forever) and liked what saw. That made the Blue Dog a happy boy I can tell you! After all isn't THAT what we build our cars for..our own ideas in steel? That said the photo's above were taken a last years Sydney's Motor-Ex show..the biggest streetmachine, hot rod & custom show in N.S.W. for the year, and the Airbourne Eight generated a whole lot of interest, a lot more than some of the high priced Rod's there. You must admit it does stand out of the crowd! I am lucky enough to call Bluey a good friend for some 30 years and some of the comments above caught my attention...these were about the same sort of comments that was said at Motor-Ex.. some positive, some negative ..but all got people noticing it...and that's what Blue built it for... Make it a head turner. Scotty.
Thanks for taking the time to post, I love the idea, its different and kinda retro-futuristic. I wish more people would build stuff like this, I might not like all the parts used/their placement but overall its cool. He sounds like a cool guy, tell him to build some more.
Steve, as you know we are very good at that over here. I have spoken to many people about it. I'd actually like to understand the phenomenon a little better. If you don't know about the Australian car scene you probably wouldn't know what I'm on about, but Steve's comment is so apt to so much of what gets built over here. Very talented craftsmen / tradesmen with no eye for design. That said, this car is by no means the best example of that phenomenon. Pete
Hmmm he dont gives a rats *** about what people think but that Gene winfield liked what he saw made him a happy boy..............
I kinda like it. When was it built? Lots of trends here - past and present. Imagine how cool some of today's low-buck creations (rodent rod or not) would be if they got taken further. Gary
well-built, but a bit too gaudy for my tastes. Then again, he really wasn't building it to please ME, was he?
What?? You mean to say that if Gene Winfield liked your car you would'nt be pleased?? I know I would be wrapped!! Scotty.
As AussySteve said, some guys just need to take a good look at a project rather than just build in the shed. Almost makes me glad I'm talentless, no matter how bad my design is it will never see daylight. Doc.
yeah im with the good craftsmanship-bad taste comment. ugly..... (tho agree not the worst example of this)
