What did the donor rear come out of and what is your new gear ratio?
How much wider is the new axle?
I'm sure you'll be enjoying a higher (and lower rpm) top speed now!

The 6 lug rear axle is from a 73-87 1/2 ton 4x4 or Blazer. There might be slight differences depending on the year.Earlier 12 bolt truck rears will also work with the usual mods. This axle is supposed to be a 1980, exactly 2 inches wider than stock. One inch on each side is not noticed.Even the donar axle parking brake cables can be reworked to fit.Obiviously this swap requires a conversion to open drive line. This truck has a SM420 truck four speed,I was able to find a late 50's SM420 rear bearing retainer and yoke for open drive from a guy on this site.I did this swap before on a similar truck. There other axles out there but I wanted a 6 lug.
The ratio is 3.42, common gears are 3.08-4.11.The 8.5 rear came with a nearly new Auburn Posi and 3.73 gears.I swapped in a set of 3.42 gears from a 2005 Chevy truck. With 30 inch tires 60mph be about 2300 rpm, about all a 235 can pull and not be too doggy.
