I'm kinda old for a FNG (53). Want to do a Model T Coupe and finally found one. A little pricy from what I've seen but Its local, not 800 miles away. Here's where I need some advice. Tryin to do my homework and spent all day on BMV website. Seller says he has bill of sale from previous owner (out of state) with body number on it (tag is still on the body). My research shows body tag on a 27 Ford means nothing as there was more than one company doing these bodies. Info I have says the only numbers that mean anything are on the block and the frame (this is a body only). Seller says just take the bill of sale, have it inspected and I'll receive a ***le. Should I quit worrying and buy the body or is it more h***le then its worth. By the way I'm in Ohio.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Joe

I purchased a clean do***ent for mine. Walked into DMV and not a word was said. Walked out with tag and ***le was in mail in 2 weeks.

    Pricey but painless

If the seller says it's that easy, tell him to do it and you will buy the car when he has the ***le in his name. The bill of sale from a previous owner to him is worthless to you.

Yes, ask the DMV...generally, they're there to help, not hinder. Guys do this all the time. It shouldn't be too difficult...fill out a couple of forms, a few bucks...no problem.

And as John hinted, my main concern right now would be that the condition reflects the "pricey"ness. It's good to pay a few hundred extra for an awsomely straight, solid, and complete body...as long as it's actually awesomely straight, solid, and complete. If not, save your good money for one that is.

    Good luck. Have fun.

Body in the pics plus the following,
    Nice frame with fender brackets.
    9" ford rear.
    rear spring.
29 front axle with spindles, backing plates, and all linkage.
    STUCK 46-48 flatty with trans.
    uncut front wishbone.
    headlights.
    pair of 48 carbs.

Has gl*** and complete solid doors and deck from what I can see. Don't know about garnish mouldings etc.

$3800. What do you guys think?

Hope the pics came out, this is my first try. If not, I will try again.

think this says it all. every state has different regulations, but transfer of a clean ***le should be easy

  8. Recently went through exact issue in Ohio
On my own was one pita followed by a larger pita and so on put my project on the self for over a year.
I hired a lawyer, then it was simple and over in 1-1/2 hrs.

Ohio is simple with clean and certified paper work or recent registration from out of state. This mess your contemplating is not easy
THIRD PARTY ***LES, hummm you better know somebody, AND third party nothing current, stale bill of sale, out of state from a state that doesn't have ***les, yep you need a well connected lawyer

  9. PS.
Not only did he make it easy, the folks I needed to see were expecting me. No waiting and got my historical tags all set also.

Bet you a beer he couldn't Get it papered and there It sits.
Easy, just walk in and get a ***le. Lmao!

If it's what you want to build then it may be a deal. $3800 seems a bit pricey but I can only see pics and not the car. That would be top dollar for that. There's a nice 27 T Roadster on the cl***ifieds on here I see the guy just dropped his price dramatically...

If you're also getting the frame, then it should have numbers stamped on it. If not, then you'll likely need to go the "historical do***ent" route (buy a ***le), or have the car bonded.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm going to see it Saturday. Seems like general consensus is, it's a bit pricey and the ***le headaches are not worth it. I may make him an offer and agree to purchase only if he comes up with a ***le. Not trying to be a punk, I'll use my trailer, load it for him, haul it anywhere he wants for inspection, then as some of you have said, he can show me how easy it is. I want a ***le or I'm gonna p***. Edelbroke, saw the roadster but I really want a coupe. If anyone knows of a solid 26-27 coupe builder within 500 miles of Cleveland, let me know. Thanks again guys!

    Hey Guys,
Thought Willowbilly3 had the best advice so I told the owner to show me how easy it is. Here's how it went.
    1. load car on trailer and take to Ohio DMV. Show them Minn. bill of sale (professional, typed out B.O.S. with ALL info). and body tag. They ask, Where's the ***le? To which owner replies, lost. Car has been sitting on a Minn. farm for 50 years.
    2. Told to contact Minn. DMV for ***le search.
    3. Called Minn. DMV and they sent a sheet to fill out for ***le search. (Minn. destroys all do***ents after 7 years).
    4. Fill out sheet and send to Minn. DMV. Of course it comes back clean.
    5. Take sheet from Minn. saying not stolen, and car back to Ohio DMV.
    6. Walk out with clear Ohio ***le.

It took about a month but it was pretty easy. Also, be nice to the DMV people. I got the impression that they could **** with you if they wanted.

Thanks to all, for the advice. All I can say is cool, let the fun begin!

The body looks pretty nice, but the frame and wheels look to small. Are you going to change them?

Ratatat, Yea, sits to high too!
That body dolly makes things way easy. I think the first part of this project will be to build my own dolly.

Hemi8me, I been lookin for awhile. Everything's 800 miles away. Nice doors, nice deck lid, all garnish moldings. The body supports and mounts are nice, The window regulators and door latches work. I couldn't go wrong. $3800 but I got about $800 worth of stuff to sell off. if I can get $800 for the other stuff, I feel pretty good being I got a ***le. There's a 26 in Medina. Whole car for $4500. Been rolled and the bottom 3 inches of all the supports are gone.

    Stock Racer,
Some of your fellow northern ohio HAMB brothers and sisters might appreciate knowing which DMV office you used, along with the name of the clerk who took such good care of you.

Dealing with the DMV seems to be more and more of a pain these days.

Pir8Darryl, The seller did the leg work. He got it done at Wickliffe Ohio DMV. He said Elaine, Rose, and Terry are great. Terry took care of this transaction. Hope this helps someone.
