I'm sure this has happened to a lot of you. Guy comes to look at what you have for sale and procedes to tell you that he doesn't like this and that. Then he says "I'LL BUY IT IF YOU CHANGE"...... Nope it ain't a gonna happen "DEEP POCKETS".. You buy it like it is and "YOU" change whatever you want to change......:mad::cool::cool:

I had a guy do that last year....he started in on what he would like to have different were he to purchase the car. I asked him just where in the ad he saw the statement "will build to suit". I told him this was NOT an office building, it was a hot rod....you liked the way it looked in the ad...you came, you saw, you foundered....feel free to pick up a set of your OWN tools and have at it, Ace...

I haven't gotten a lot of people talking like that to me, at least not any HAMB-ish cars.

I sold a T-bucket I built with an Edelbrock X-1 intake, 6 holley 94's rebuilt, straight linkage, and finned Edelbrock valve covers. The guy that bought it didn't want the intake, or vc's. Told me I can keep em, gave me $400 extra to buy a 4 barrel setup. I did the swap, resold the intake and finned vc's for another $2K on top of the sale from the car.

    Some people are born stupid.

  9. Those are the same guys who say they like the car, but this is missing, that's wrong, etc. - it's just how they think they can get you to come down on the price.

I would tell them that I built it to my liking and that they could change it more to theirs after I am paid for it and they own it. I built it once and I would rather put my effort into my next project.

I get the ones that think its ok to turn up without all the cash and still expect to take the car home!!! Some seem genuinely surprised at the response.

I told him if he wanted it this is what Im asking if I dont sell it Im going to pull the drive train and use it in another project. I dont bat any bones and they dont usually stay long.

That must be standard procedure for mouthbreathers looking to buy a car these days or a tire kicker hobbiest's way of getting out of actually buying anything.
I haven't had any rods for sale in a long time and when I sold the 51 Merc it actually wasn't for sale but the guy had more money than sense and caught me at exactly the right time. But, I've had more clowns ***** and whine about little **** on OT cars I have had for sale than one can imagine.
One wouldn't let his son buy a Chevelle from me because it had mag wheels on it and had "obviously" been hotrodded but he bought the same car off the car lot a friend of mine owns after my friend bought it from me and threw a quickie paint job and white walls and steelies with stock hubcaps on it. The guy was heard to brag in town how much better of a car it was than that Hotrodded junker I was trying to sell him before.
The kid new all along that it was the same car but never let on to his old man that he knew.

Haha...a lot of retarded *******s out there...poor stupid idiots. Thing is, they waste our time...but I don't see any way to totally avoid them. So I try to laugh about it now...poor brainless wonders. lol. When I sell a car, I count about 10 clueless, disrespectful, thieving ***holes to every 1 guy that understands what it takes to make buying/selling these old cars a good experience...for both parties involved.

  16. if they give me too much ****, I just send them packing. about 10 years ago I got so mad at one guy I decided to finish the car myself and I still have it.

I had a O/T car for sale. It was lumpy, nasty and a bear to drive everyday.
( too much cam, too much gear and too much of a BIG engine :D )
    It was barely streetable ...

The potential new owner just did not want that much car for his son. He paid me for the car ... and then paid me to tame it down ... I got paid and got to keep the " GO - FAST " pieces to boot.

I would just LOVE to sell him another vehicle.

    :):)

I have been through this as well. I was selling a car to pay some bills. I mean I was almost giving this car away. The conversation went like this:
    Douchebag: Is that price firm?
    Me: It is.
D: I would like to have it, but I don't care for the wheels. Can you swap them for something else?
    Me: No.
D: What about that hood? Do you have another one?
Me: That is the hood that I am selling with the car.
D: If you can't change those things I can't pay that much.
Me: If you can't pay that much you can not buy my car.
D: I thought you needed the money?
Me: I thought you wanted to buy a car.
He called me some names and left. I sold the car to his nex tdoor neighbor and he got to see what he missed every day.

I didn't ask you if you could afford it.. I simply told you what I wanted for it. it's not MY fault you don't have enough money... no cash, no car. As is.

I recently got "If you'll take $700 less than you're asking, I'll come look at your car..."

I'm asking $400 below book... I told him not to bother making the trip, I wanted to sell a car, not give one away.

I like the ones who are selling something, you go see the car and they start running a list of items that do not go with the car. I've learned to just turn around and walk away.

Had a guy call wanting to come and look at a 31 I had for sale .Idiot drove 200 miles,no truck ,no trailer. He was giving me the old routine that times are hard right now so he could buy it if I dropped the price.Well,I informed him the only hard time I needed from him was how long it would take him to get off my property. Set up at the swapmeet yesterday, had a Weiand 2-4 tunnel -ram,complete with carbs, breathers and linkage. Looked over and this idiot was taking the linkage off the thing.I asked him what the hell he was doing and he said all he needed was the linkage. He had a couple of his buddies with him and Ijust told him and his dumb*** buddies they better walk while they still could.Damn there are some idiots everywhere these days, ten years ago before the candy-*** laws came out his buddies would be picking his *** up off the ground.

Dont even get me started on swap meets.
My usual line after purist sees a project car I own
and starts telling me how it would be soooo much nicer
if it was stock is to tell them it's for sale. If they want to save it.
Price it high enough for a profit. Some bite..some just grumble.
    Most dont have the cash.

I was at the swap meet selling a car. Some guy came up and said, "Take the sign off, it's sold. I'll call you tomorrow". Since I was in no hurry to sell the car (I like my cars), I didn't ask for a deposit. He came over, the next day, with his buddy and they went for a ride. When we got back to the house, he kept hemming and hawing, so I put the car away and told him to call me when it wanted to buy. The next time, the sign stays unless I get a deposit. I ended up selling it to my neighbor for $2K more........

  27. Good answer.

I had a guy come look at a parts truck I had for sale once. It was like 5 degrees out, he wanted me to get it running for him and offered me a little less than half what I was asking for it if I did. Ya know I'm a little less polite in real life than I am on the HAMB.

Had a friend who would price a car. lets say $3000.00 buyer offered $2000.00.
Jim said no, but I'll take $4000.00 And would't budge after a week of begging the guy came back and paid $4000.00

Why would somebody expect you to change something for them to buy it? What the hell are people thinking?

  30. If I get the slightest hint that I am going to have to deal with a pest buyer post sale, I break it off.
