Posted in the cl***ifieds but I'd like to know if anyone has a lead on 401 nailhead parts locally. These ****ers are heavy and postage from the US is gonna kill me.

I really just need the snout. Mine broke.

    Thanks, Pete

Any other help from the evening crew?

  5. Cant help ya with a snout Pete but can a GM starter from other OHV be adapted? Might be easier to get parts for a more readily avail starter.

Then again, WTF do I know about Nailheads?

No Frank. The starter itself is the same as SBC but the snout is totally different

Not sure if I can make it ... work. Might have to try to get there.

Thanks Steve. I guess if you have any contacts it can't hurt but don't go to too much trouble. I have emailed Flat Top Bob (Owens Auto Salvage) in the states. I reckon he'll have one. It's just going to come down to $$$.

  9. may even be better off gettin one from the states, dont imagine theres too many floatin around oz and if there is any out there youre prob gonna pay a premium.

    Pete,

My brother is in the US at the moment, staying in LA, returning in 2 weeks.
He'd be keen to help out...can ask if you want. I don't think he'd have a problem with weighing down his suitcase a little more...

    Dave.

TA Performance has the mini Hi Torque units. I'm waiting for a quote on shipping on one of those too.

Try Tim Wood at Pro Start in NZ he manufactures them and lists all the permutations of Nailhead starters on his website... He is a rodder and a straight up honest businessman to boot.

I have a mate coming here from Melbourne on Wednesday and back on 27th , I am sure he would be happy for some extra luggage!! Ya probably know him and /or his brother anyway . I can organise to pick up from Tim and get it to him before he leaves . PM me if you are interested.

Is there not an old place that rebuilds starters and alternators around? I've had good luck with them having cores or the parts.

I'd get it from Tom Telesco He's telriv here on the HAMB

Looks like that may nail it.

Pete I've got one here that you can have a lend of until I decide what I'm going to do re the starter for my Nailhead. I was thinking of going with a hi-torque one as my engine is a 62 and I think I need a later starter to go with the ST400.

I can take it to Ballarat if you have someone from your area who could pick it up.

It must be hard for you guys over in the US to understand that even a SBC is an exotic engine over here. You can't go to a wrecking yard or parts store if you need parts. Anything more exotic than a Chev... forget it. They were never on the roads over here. Even the few Chevs we had were mostly 6 cyls.

I'd expect no more from you.

Thanks Swifty. You're my fallback now. I've ordered one of the NZ ones thanks to Craig (below)

Thanks Craig. Big effort to not only source a starter for me but to also organise getting it back to Australia for me. Much appreciated.

Checked his website and none listed. The NZ one is way cheaper than what he does have listed e.g. SBC starters.

Should have it early next week. Done deal.
