Hey Everyone! I'm happy to join the HAMB! Sorry to start on a sour note but have to bring this up... I've been restoring motorcycles and cars for quite a few years now and want to warn anyone from making the mistake of bringing any work to be chromed in Asbury Park. I visited Super Chrome and some parts simply ruined. Most notably I received back motorcycle fork tubes rusted on the inside which were previously spot clean. As you know, rust and rubber oil seals don't mix. Fork tubes - ruined. Parts were set ready as partially unpolished. Pitting was not filled. Chrome was flaking off of emblems. A horrible job. Please beware and avoid using this business. I am utterly embarrassed to have made the mistake of going there. Anyone else had any experience at this place?
Welcome to the HAMB! You should contact "ChromePlaterJosh" He is an alliance member here and several threads display the bright work he has done. If you don't want to ship parts then you may find some guys that can refer you to some local shops they have had some good luck with. Once again welcome and have fun! P.S. Make sure you do an intro soon.
Try Artistic Metal Finishing in Somerville. The bike shop that I paint parts for uses them,Ive seen the stuff he's sent out really nice......Rich
Artistic...you HAVE to be kidding! A year ago, he did a grill for a 48 Chevy I was working on. Got it back, put it on the car, the car never left the gargage...working on putting in the interior, trim, etc. Now the grill is rusting! NEVER been outside, except the ride home! Bring it back to Artistic...first the guy denies he did it. They he says it was a different company that did it...same name, but in Piscataway at the time, same "shop manager". Still says it isn't his chrome. Why? No copper plating on it. Later after furnishing some "proof" that he did it, he agrees to replate it...for the SAME price he did it a year ago. BUT if I pay an extra few hundred, he will give a guarantee! Sorry, avoid this guy..........
A friend found a small shop down the Jersey Shore that he says does good work and a reasonable price. He just picked up some parts he had done for his vintage german bike and was very pleased with the quality. Becker Plating on RT 35 in Neptune. I'm going to get a couple things done there as soon as the weather breaks from all this snow crap.
Not gonna get involved too deep with any issue you have with the guy. I know your work and I know his. I have been using him for my stuff for the last year without issue. He does right by me. I do know that he hasn't owned the place for that long (he might have worked for the old owner?) so there may be some truth to his claims. Just saying my stuff is good so far.
I use Becker Plating in Neptune mainly because I've known them for years. John Cerchio ("Warpath" F/C) uses SuperChrome and his stuff looks great. Go figure...
I have had some very nice chrome done by the folks in Asbury, even sent a peice back, and have been satisfied. I also know Artistic has done some very nice work, in fact he finished up a lot of work for us on another project, and it all came out great. We were very grateful, so we returned to give him more business. I have used other platers in Jersey over the past 35 years...Best in Newark, his brother Mara, Bright polishing in Hillside, the guy who used to be on Vauxhall in Union. They all did pretty good work. Some (Mara) lost more parts than the others...but if they won't correct their mistakes, or the occasional shoddy work, it's time to move on! But when you fail to do a good job, and you deny doing it, and then try to extort the full amount to do it over...that's 3 strikes against you.
well welcome to the hamb. i had my chrome done for my BIKE at Artistic Metal Finishing.they did a great job. and polishing was amazing wow. p.s. way dose it matter that he said he had chrome done for his bike. just a heads up for people how have chrome work done for there cars...
tHERE ARE DIFFERENT GRADES OF CHROME. Race cars use "shopping cart" chrome. Cheaper, not as good. How long will a chrome bumper last at Wall Stadium? Show quality chrome is nickle(polished), brass(polished) & chrome. I use All Bright, 39 Ave.A, Newark. 973-371-8060. My roadster gets best in show.. U get what U pay for. Good stuff aint cheap

I used Becker Plating to Nickel plate a very good set of Electroline headlights. Not only was this a complete disaster of an experience from a professional standpoint, but they destroyed my lights. When I dropped them off I was told they wouldn't be perfect, and I said fine as I'm building a traditional style hotrod not a show point winner. I expected a descent job as he requested a descent price, W E L L let me just tell you several platers of high profile have acknowledged there negligence. The lights were damaged beyond repair, they actually melted holes in the pot metal from leaving them in the tank to long. The finished chrome had nasty runs, and they were finished in chrome, not nickel. They are also so warped that you cant match them up to screw them together. To top it all off when I questioned them about the heinous workmanship the jerkoff in charge commences to tell me that Pot Metal is shit garbage and if I wanted a good job I should have gone somewhere else. I did all I could do to refrain from severe violence. Sorry for long winded story but please let my HORROR be to your benefit w/your Hotrod treasure. "DONT" Use BECKER PLATING RT 35 NEPTUNE NJ
