I have a glass top mechanical fuel pump installed in my Chevy 235. I am seeing that the two mounting bolts are backing out and the pump is coming loose from time to time and leaking oil. My question is this. How do you get a socket on the mounting bolts if the pin holding the mechanical arm is in the way? I put a link to a similar fuel pump below. There is a pin that is perpendicular to the two mounting bolts that is actually sticking out on both sides and nearly touching the mounting bolts. This is keeping me from being able to get a socket on the bolts. A box end wrench is out of the question also because the space is so tight. Does the mounting pin need to come out?? Has anyone ever installed one of these fuel pumps? Thanks in advance..

I've had the pump off my 235 a couple of times and don't remember any problems. And have worked on a few others over the years, too, with out issue.

I'd guess the pin that's interfering is a little too long. It's the pivot that holds the pump arm. You could take the pump out and grind/file the ends of the pin to be flush with the body.

Use your 1/4" drive - they clear everything. If the pin is moving, drive it back in flush & stake ...

On my old 235 i ran allen head bolts but don't really remember the reason why. Maybe it was because of the same issue you are having.

I have regular head hex screws on my pump now. Cesar
