FRUSTRATION. Have you ever experienced frustration over thinking you've found the right part - the "missing piece" of your "puzzle", so-to-speak - only to find it's no longer there or available? Above: ME (and my craigslist "date") Have you ever gotten the feeling like you're a donkey being led by a carrot on a fishing pole as you go from one word-of-mouth location to another, following up with phone call after phone call, checking Craigslist so obsessively people think you're looking for a "date", only to find that someone got the part before you, that the owner s****ped it last week, or that it never existed or was the wrong part? Above: The Holy Grail. Why can't you come live in my garage? I've been looking for a '68 - '72 stock F-250 8-lug Dana 60 for a while now. Every time I find one, it's gone. The most frustrating part is that being in Kansas City there are probably 5 of them within 20 miles of me anywhere I go, but no one thinks to part out said trucks, or even to sell them, because who in the hell wants that old broken-down retired grain truck, anyway? You know? Above: Broken-down piece of **** in it's native environment. Bring a machete. Also, a gun. So that leads me to today. I call a guy back that not only had one, but it was in a truck he was parting out, and wasn't going to use the rear end out of it anyway. He'd have probably given it to me, but I insisted on trading him something for it. He seemed all good with that, and said he'd call, as it was winter and he didn't know when he'd be getting to it. A few weeks go by, no call. I call him, and find out that THIS is what he did to it, and now he wants $500 for it: Above: Where the Holy Grail now resides. I hope that cat eats his soul. Or his face. Or ****s in his sandbox. You get the picture. Granted, it's cool he made something he could use out of it, but it's a Dana 60! Of all the rear ends he could've made that out of... So that's my story. What's yours? Also, if anybody has a '68 - '72 F-250 rear in the Kansas City area, or within driving distance, let me know. ~Jason
I'm helping a fellow Hamber look for ; a missing puzzle piece, a donkey, or a girl with a donkey (?????) and a Dana 60 cheap, and local! I know the feeling! Good luck
So why not trade the guy a lighter duty rear for the Dana and offer to install it under his trailer for free. I'm sure he does'nt care just as long as his trailer rolls.
I'm actually trading a jukebox for a Sun 1120 machine and the abovementioned rear end. Dude said for SURE he could find one, but couldn't. He asked me this morning how much cash it would take to make up for it, and I told him I'd see how much I could get one of those rear ends for and tell him that price. I'm still hunting. What do you guys think I should tell him? ~Jason
I got my jukebox for free, and a Sun 2000 machine for free, so it sounds to me like the rearend should be free. but what do I know.
Last dana 60 I bought was $100 bucks. One before that was $50. To bad you aren't out here. those things are everywhere and guys actually part them out....
As someone who always owns the oddball car and is also into Schwinn Stingrays and vintage Schwinn cruisers, and just happens to live in a town where nothing I need is ever readily available..... I have to come to know your pain all too well. Sux!!!
i'm chasing my holy grail as we speak... running and driving 31 coupe. i've got two years into it of stopping by and shooting the **** with the old guy and he's finally agreed to sell it to me, and gave me a price. took him $1k less than the price he named, he said no/he'll think about it. now it's a little game of how many times can i stop by to chat him up before he says as i'm leaving one day "oh by the way, you can have the coupe for that price" and/or how long will it take me to come up with another grand... blah.
Not sure how hard you are looking, but a quick look at KC craigslist, search of "dana" brought up 5 or 6 D60's..from 125 on up...unsure if locations are near you.
Being a Jeep owner, I'm always on the look out for cheap one ton axles, those things grow on trees up here, you can score them for around $100 Use search tempest, you will have one in under a week Keith
Hmmmmmm... I'd thought of that too, until he called me back and said, "I have another rear end I can put under there. I don't know if you're going to be interested in that price, but I could swap 'em and sell the Dana to you for $300." For that kinda abuse pal, you don't just owe me dinner first, YOU OWE ME ****ING DIAMONDS. ~Jason
I found one for $150 at A place way South of Olathe off of Highway 7. The Dana 60 I'm looking for HAS to be '68 - '72 F-250, otherwise, it's not a bolt-in for my application. I'm trying to do do some footwork to avoid fab work. ~Jason
you could try County Line Salvage just east of Coffeyville on Hwy 166 phone 1-800-772-2996. A little bit of a drive but those trucks are all over down here
