It was the regular series paint. The $25.00 a gallon stuff. It's been on the car in varied weather and still looks good. I've never waxed either. I suspect that it would look even better if I did.

  2. For my circle track cars, I would go to Home Depot & pick out a spray can off the shelf that I liked, spray paint a smaple on metal, then tak it to them to mix up a gallon. That way when it got scraped (racing IS a contact sport) I could use the spray can to touch it up. Just an idea, that H-D paint is durable

Massey Ferguson Red on my buddy's '62. Cleared over the red. Held up pretty well for several years.

I've used that stuff on equipment here at work, looks ok at first then fades and cracks if left outside. Should be fine on a garaged vehicle.

Take a look at this thread if you got the time> http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=407007&highlight=rustoleum

I did this truck with Ace's store brand of rustoleum, mixed Harbor Blue and Aluminum to get this finish. Mixes good, sprays good, couldn't get it to run if you tried. Yes it is oil base, and no I do not know how it held up. I sold the truck shortly after paint.

These were both painted with the cheap TSC paint. The T-bucket is semi-gloss black. The VW is a mix of International Harvester white and gloss white, then flattened with talcum powder. I've got less than $50 in each paint job.

  9. not a good practice. you never want to trap unhardened paint under hardened paint. especially when the unhardened is fresh. glad it worked for you.
