Its true, I heated my house with the wood I removed from my 36 Master Deluxe. One door is stripped and metal installed, the second door is stripped and almost ready to weld the new metal together. Amazing how much wood is in these doors. Wont be long til both my doors shut again! Then to the body.

Recently did the same to my 1934 5 window, the square tubing works just fine. Best thing for it - up in smoke.

I'm working on replacing that wood in my 33 Cabriolet. I do have a wood stove but I think I'll wait until I'm done to burn my 78 year old wood!

Looks like you're putting steel back in, I painstakingly replaced all the wood in my truck. Had a good time doing it too.

Looks a lot like my '35 Olds Business Coupe did, only not quite as much wood- I sold it to an old guy who was a master woodworker, and in two weeks he had completely rebuilt and fitted the door wood. Worst part of the design was that the metal door hinges fastened into wood in the door frame, so when the wood started to go, the suicide doors started to sag

If you are like me, you will need that wood back for a pattern or something now that its gone, but if you kept it, It would just be in the way somewhere never to be needed again:D

Lucky for me I have two 36 master deluxe 5 window coupes so I still have two doors left to do. I was pretty intimidated as I have always stayed away from the inner workings of doors but it's been a breeze so far. The wood looks like oak si it burns nice! I burn a jeep to the ground once, this smells better!

I've heard of guys burning the furniture when it got cold and they ran out of wood but this is a first for me. The new structure looks like it will be a heck of a lot stronger though.

  15. Too bad, there is someone out there that would have paid money to use that for patterns at the very least. Dumb move.

Just like a new one- like the man said, everybody got one, and they all stink

  19. I'm not trying to be a smart ass or crack some lame joke, but I dont think I would want those fumes in my home. Could very well just be old wood burning fumes, but i dont think I would take the chance. Just sayin......................

The good thing about a fireplace is that most of the smoke goes out the chimney. Doubt if GM used any peservatives in their oak. I have put much worse in my lungs on pupose over the years, can't imagine one evening of warmth could hurt me much more.

Prove me foolish, find someone to pay me "good money" for my old wood. I still have another 36 out back I would be happy to sell the wood out of. I won't hold my breath, except around the fire I guess. I still have the arched pieces for the ends of the doors I used as a templet but found it easier to fab my own to fit. Might have a big ol Bon fire when I get to the body!
