Um..... Me, Tuck, Max Wedge and possibly a couple others are going to build a dragster....... I think we just made a deal for the one Kustombuilder listed in the cl***ifeids.......

It kinda ****s because we should have just bought it from Moriarity in the first place........ It would have been cheaper.

I saw it and was like Damn, I need those slicks...... then I started thinking that I have almost everything to make it run... so I made some calls and now we are in trouble.... hahahahaha

    OOPS.

After we all pitch in, we'll each have a few hundred dollars invested and we should be able to make it run.......

It's going to be total back burner.... as we find the right parts... we will put it together. We all have more important priorities, but I think we can pull this off pretty cheap.

Anyway, I know there have been a bunch of posts about dragsters and Hamb drags... but they seemed to get sidetracked with rules etc....

Right now I don't really care about the rules, I'm sure when the time comes we can figure all that out.......

I just want to look at pics of cool front engine dragsters. Everything from jalopys to pros.....

I guess we will be using a flathead, but we have alot of options.

I'm interested in steering setups and front ends........ I guess we will use a spring, cause that's what we know..... but whats the deal with tortion bars?

To be honest, this is way out of my league....... I don't know anything about drag cars...... but I do know pretty much about Hot Rods and I think we have the skills to pull this off and have a pretty neat dragster.

I think it would be cool to make it run and drive it down the bike path behind the shop......
    haha

    Do dragsters do donuts?

I bought an old FED about a year ago. I have had similar priority issues, so I m just collecting parts at the moment. I'll be runnning the original Anglia front end with the torsion bar set up. My dad bought me a real nice steering box that was specifically made for a rail for about 75 bucks. This one had a rear end housing, but the internals were gone. Sandman snagged me a complete 60 rear end for 70 bucks. Im told they will hold 400 HP pretty easily. The frame is in fair shape. Now I need to track down a good motor for it. Im thinkin Hemi if I can find a reasonably priced one.

Im basically just collecting parts. Sandman is hot and heavy on his, hopefully he will post some pics. Someone else on the board is building one, but he seems to be keeping it under the radar. Maybe this will get him out of the FED closet.

    Heres a few pics

First one is Sandman and the rail the day I adopted it. Second shows the torsion bar set up pretty well. Last is the front end.

You mentioned building it cheap. That was my goal too, but I havent found much to be cheap. Good shorty glides run about 1200 bucks, bad ones blow up and take your testes with em. Keep us posted!

The Bleedster and Crease in a heads up race to the finish! Hell yeah! LOL

Yeah, with all this 'HAMB Drags' and dragster talk lately it's hard not to want one. I got out of drag racing (at the track, LOL) quite a while back and wouldn't have much use for one except for HAMB events I guess, but it sure would be cool. Especially the part where they are pretty much cobbled together from the extra parts that a few guys have laying around.

To be honest my first thought was to buy it, steal the slicks and then resell it.......... but then I was thinking if a bunch of us chipped in, it could rule for cheap...

Maybe, we'll put an olds in it..... but that full race motor is going in the Bleedster.......

Jaker has an early 283 in his garage........ that might be cool.....

I've got a couple running flatheads.

I guess the idea, unless we score some killer drag motor, will be to put stock disposable motors in it, if it breaks... we just put another one in.

I don't know, I guess is the idea is just to make it complete...... then refine it to work well..... then, eventually, with Tuck involved we will probably put a bubble top on it.......haha

Or maybe I can get Burger to rob a grave so we can make a coffin car out of it....

I don't really care if its fast or anything, I just want to see how cheaply we can get it together..... and have a few building partys.

    It's all about the fun.

After it's a real car, maybe we can make it fast.

Dammit, I think I need to find a coffin.

A couple of my friends have coffin rooms. I'll see what they can dig up (pun intended) on the cheap. We're in Indiana so the Batesville Coffin Company is close by and blems do happen.

START with a rule book. That way you won't have to un-do so much stuff. I can't think of anywhere that you could run a race car with out some sanctioning body's standards. Unless you just plan to play on back roads, build it to spec. ANRA, NHRA, VRA or the In-liners/Flathead groups all have rule books. Even if it's a 12 or 13 second car, you can be hurt or worse, hurt someone else. You won't need a real elaborate ch***is, cage or fire suppression, but you'll need a safe cage and restraint system.

Have fun and post updates often. Build it safe enough so that you'd feel safe with it in the lane next to you. It doesn't need to be pretty or expensive, but but it's gotta p*** tech, or you'll just have a pretty garage sculpture.

NHRA is screwing the racers and fans so bad right now. The vintage drags are the next thing. The VRA N/FC cl*** is attracting some heavy hitters, lots of other cl***es get to race under them. And…Good Guys or not, it's a real fun deal. It's a hoot blowing **** up with nitromethane, in fact, it's an addiction.

My neighbor has a small child coffin about 3 foot long. I can ask how much they want for it.

    hahahaha Yeah a coffin.....

Max Wedge can drive the ****er with the Knuckel Drager gear on.....

Yeah when it comes to the cage and all the safety rules we will follow all the rules....we definatly don't want to get hurt..... When we start building, we will have all the rules connsidered......

BUT for now I just want to see pics of dragsters.....

What do we use for a steering box.....?

I was just eyeballing the tortion bar set up off of a customers bug.... seems it could be cut down and narrowed?

My dads panel has an alluminum power gluide in it........... maybe he won't notice.

I'm pretty excited about this. I've never really been a racing guy....... I'm just not competative..... but I like to go fast...

This thing will be cheap fun....... thye whole idea is to not get caught up in the racing game....... just build a neat car with our creativity, and have some fun.

This is going to be a fun summer.......

If you wanna see some neat stuff, go to: www.dragracingonline.com

Check the archives from last issue and check the Hoyt somebody, (Losing my memory) the Georgia Flash. Great shots of how it used to be. Also check wediditforlove.com. You have to pay for the Ewald Brothers site, but it's well worth it.

PS, if it were mine, I'd run a solid mount suspension. They tend to go a little more straight.

    Billy Hullit's new-old dragster turns high 12's - low 13s. 3 speed stick.

I'm not too sure I would consider flatheads as disposable, but what the heck it sounds fun. It would definitely look cool with the flathead.

Some more. Both of these run in the 11's. Larry's black one is brand new, and runs alchohol.

    Those pics rule! More!!!

The Bleedster is getting done first..... In fact, the reason I wanted this thing in the first place is for the slicks...... That way I can use yours on the green car (or on your car for that matter) and put the ones from the dragster on the bleedster.

Basically I'm buying the dragster for the slicks.... I was just gonna resell the dragster minus the slicks.... but then I called Aaron and Tuck and now we are keeping it.... I'm trying to talk Jake into it too...... I think he will be on board.... We will have a team of hoodlums.

    This one rules.

your actually gonna run those slicks??? man, those are NOS recapped Hoosiers from 63. i picked em up a few years back from a guy in Ohio when i bought a 63 Rivi from him. they are hard as cement. even with NO air in them they won't go flat :D ... i had a guy want to buy them for his museum in Ohio but i thought they were too cool to sell at the time. then Dave talked me out of them and later Dan talked him out of them. they've been around but never down the road.

I asked about those 12" front tires and he said they came off some foreign thing in the junk yard, he thought a British. The wheels, they laced themselves out of junk and the tank came out of a junk pile too.
