It's been raining here for quite some time, (I live in a temperate rain forest, go figure) and today turned out brisk, but sunny, so I figured with the weather report saying rain tomorrow and all next week, I better take the opportunity to get the T Sedan out, and "rotate the tires"... so I am cruising along the beach, in front of our local park, and I see this car sitting there... I went all over the car, not touching, of course, and after a little bit, this older gent comes out of the retirement home across the street, and opens the door to the Coupe. I naturally strike up a conversation with "Otto", trying to keep the drool from becoming too obvious. Otto bought the car in 1983, from the original owner (or his son, I forget which now) rebuilt the original engine, and other than that, has just been driving it. He said he moved up to this tiny little town last year from Burbank, CA, which is why I have never seen the car before. It even has the original 33 Ford radio, which still works, and the original interior ! NO, he doesn't want to sell it, but I made sure he has my phone number and e-mail, just in case he changes his mind I included a photo of "Otto", and you can see my T in the back of the '33 in one of the shots...
Couple more shots, I didn't feel right asking him to roll down the window to get better shots of the interior... didn't want to push my luck, he was visiting a friend in the retirement home, and had to get going right afterwards...
As I understand Otto, it wouldn't be a good idea to try anything, an ex cop with Marksman awards, probably not the best guy to try and rip off... Guess he has a bit of property in which to dispose of any unwanted company, as well...
s**** metal 48, I tried to get him to trade me straight across, and even threw in my damn near perfect 1957 VW sunroof (it was on the cover of a magazine back in 2001, and has all the bells and whistles, 2017 cc engine, 48 IDA Weber carbs, real not repop Rader wheels, lotsa cool ****) and he didn't bat an eyelash when he said NO. I respect that, and will just keep track of him and the car, go by and visit with him from time to time, help him with stuff he needs any help with, and you just never know... He's doing a fine job of preserving the coupe, and I'm fine with that. If it were mine, I'd be doing exactly what he is doing.... preserving it, and driving it for the sheer joy of it.
s**** metal 48, you have a PM. BTW, if you see a black '67 Bug, owned by a guy named Dave Conklin, in Centreville, save your fuel... it is street driven and can bust out a 10 second quarter mile.
