I just bought a 67 327 engine. The casting number denotes either a 302 z/28, a 327-350 hp, or a 327-275 hp with a q-jet. Well it's not a DZ block soooo, but the suffix code is IYW. It was a flint block. Date is Jan 10 1967. I found a YW but it says a later 350. This is a small journal with a steel crank and had 2.02 heads. Dated late 1966. Any ideas what the IYW or YW is out of? Thanks, Lippy

Maybe the W is actually an upside down M.
    I believe YM is 1967 pickup 220hp 327 with 4 speed.
That would not have come with the 2.02 heads though.
Are you sure that it's original or has it been modified?

Well, it's kind of a screwey deal. I bought it as a dis***embled engine. But, it is a .040 over 327 small journal with a steel crank. Why would the casting number say one thing and the suffix say another? I know chevy did some screwey stuff. The guy I got it from said it came out of a 67 camaro and it had an alum GM intake with a holley. Looking like a 327-350 but, someone put flat top pistons in it with 4 valve reliefs. I don't think it was stamped wrong but.....I know the blocks for a ton of 327's were the same for a lot of engines, but the casting number does not indicate a pickup block unless they put 350 hp or 275 hp 327's in pickups!! I'd bet the heads are off of this block as they are dated close to the block. Lippy

What is the block casting number? What is the complete stamped engine number? What is the actual casting date code?

Kind of hard to figure it out, without all the info.

Could it be a YV? That would be a '68 327.

Are you sure its not a 302? They were only out 3 years in the camaros. 67-69. They had 2.02 heads and made like 350hp or better and were small journal cranks. I have a book with the casting numbers but i cant seem to find the damn thing.

    Ok, The block is
3892657 I see now there is a truck 327 with that number. It is dated A-10-7.

The heads are 462's and dated H-20-6

The crank is forged and has 2680 on it. Jim, gotta run out and get the suffix number but I know it starts out VO then some numbers then IYW on the end. I understand sometimes their I's were 1's. Lippy
