I have two projects, a 50 Merc and a 51 Merc, neither of which are drivers at this time. That is my biggest challenge, no driver. Now I am looking at buying a driver because to only build and not drive is not very interesting. I figure if I have a driver then it will be easier to keep building?
Guess I really have three projects because I am also building a custom ch***is for the 51 Merc. Here are some pix.
Very wise plan. At one time I too had several projects going on and never had money, time or enough room to do any of them justice. So I made a coupla BIG swap meet excursions, sold enough to build a second bathroom in the house and partially pay for a new garage, and whittled it down to one hotrod project. Since then I've made it a practice to get rid of one car before diving into another. For me that works way better. A lot less stressful, and it's much easier to keep track of the extra car parts!
I do deeply admire those that can pick a dream and see it through to the very end with a focus so narrow it could cut steel... That aint me!! Never has been, never will be! Call automotive A.D.D. what ever you want, but I seem to want every cast off old vehicle that has ever been. I hear myself utter the phrase "Wow, I've always wanted one of those!!!" almost every day! My customer stuff does always seem to slowly get done, 'cause that's someone else's vision. The "slowly" part brings in the O.C.D. end of the equation... It's got to be perfect; right? The other thing that always makes me look so much worse than I am is my penchant for taking collected parts piles and tabbing them together to get them out from underfoot and or to resell. Lot's easier to push a roller around and sell to a louver customer than step over a pile of parts! The last part of this unholy equasion is my girlfriend... Aren't woman supposed to have a leveling effect on us poor males and help guide us through our somewhat convoluted decision making process after we somewhat domesticate them? Fat chance here!!! Mine has been dragging Ford Falcons home at an alarming rate! I swear some day I will look out and see the little white van from TLC's "Horders" program come rolling up... The only bright spot is that the Plymouth always runs, 'course, that deterrs further work on my stuff too!
I usually have a minimum of two, sometimes three old car projects. For me, it holds my interest better, and I tend to go into a lull on a project (waiting for parts, weather, life, contemplation, etc.). It also helps when going to swap meets..better chance of coming home with something I can use. As in most things in life, sometimes it is better to take a step away occ***ionally, to re-***ess your goals/plans.
Can't have TOO much cool stuff laying around. Feel like some stuff is starting to dry up so I'm building up my inventory.
Seems I`m not the only one with this problem. ****er for deals and for some reason **** keep falling into my hands. Most of my projects came from wheeling and dealing. So it is not like I have a pile of cars that I have a fortune spent on. problem I have is I get into a project and something else comes along. I Now don`t read cl***ifieds or go looking at cars that someone tells me about. Seems that is not working, the cars just show up at my shop now!!I can`t win
