For all of you guys that posted negative comments, I am guessing you are running the same ol' sbc350 with gl***packs like every other streetrod in the country!

Some of us just want something different.....I was looking for a different looking motor without going with a flathead ford motor.

Thanks guys. I am not going to be drag racing, and I do expect to do valve work and run headers, but I thought that might be a given. Who runs stock manifolds on a hot rod?? I am going with a bigger carb and have a complete new ignition. I just wanted a little bit more than the stock cam offers.

Next time I will be very cautious with the way I phrase my questions.

Well, not surprising that you would think that, considering how ill-informed your original post was. 440 Mopar, 428 FE ford, and a 327 chevy.

A buddy of mine used to make his maverick sound lopey by retardind the timing a bit, and going rich on the carb. When my mustang gets lopey, I know it has a vacuum leak.

OP is over thinking it, just take a needle and poke a couple of holes in a vacuum line.

That'll work nicely. Low buck too. No need to squander money on a camshaft.

Man, if you're gonna go ahead and put lipstick on that pig, at least make sure it's a good color...

I have read all of your posts, and your introduction.
Interesting list of vehicles, and I see no mention of you actually owning a '64-'67 Cadillac.

That big 'ol 429 would be an 'interesting' non-belly****on swap into any one of them.

    You never said, and no one as yet has actually thought to ask the big question;
Which one of your 'hot rods' now has, or is the intended recipient of this 429?

    eta-
OH Wow! I Just checked out your profile, Man! that is one bad *** -wicked- looking Olds!
My imagination is seeing 6x2s! And that thing deserves a 'rough idle cam' if anything ever did!
Hey! would you believe it, I'm an old Oldsmobile retiree, 30 years and out in '99.

I suggest the critics and mockers take time to go read 34 Olds' introduction, and profile.
This dude seriously has the skills, tools, and facility to 'walk the walk'.
How many of you actually live -in- an automotive restoration shop?

Tom, you need to get a pic of that Olds in your avatar, it speaks loud and clear.
There is a lot of constructive advice to be found here, and I'm sure that had your post been accompanied by a picture of your 'under-construction' Olds, many questions would have been answered without needing a word, and responses would have been much different.
Please excuse us, and do post future updates on your progress.

Ok, I looked. No info on rear gear, converter, or trans for that matter. Stick, auto? Hydro?

What part of "work-in-progress" was too hard for you to understand?
Tom can change any damn part of the combo at any time.
Did you try to **** with Johnny Cola while he was building his Caddy powered Coupe?
    Get over it.

what part of "cam recommendation" do YOU not understand? Or are you just too dense to grasp the relevance of that info when recommending a cam? If your hero, Johnny Cola was asking for a cam recommendation, I'd be asking him the same question.

Porkn******, Falcongeorge- All I can say is, you two must be gluttons for punishment!;)

The last time this was asked, the thread results were pretty much the same. This time, I regulated myself to the sidelines! lol!:D

  16. Hey I'm just trying to be the voice of sanity here. :D

OK most of what I said altough true will probably cause someone to get their feelings hurt, heaven forbid I should cause someone to get their feelings hurt. Yellow might make them sad after that.

best bet is call the thumper cam company and get the salesman to recommend a cam. Problem solved.

Well, you know, post #64, the guy came back, and actually sounded like he wanted to be taken seriously. I figured I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, and do just that. Stupid me. I guess Jessie finds all these complicated technical questions threatening.

    Post #42 - I actually have a 429. Hell, I have a whole '64 drivetrain in my '60.

Not dogging anybody here - hell, it's his motor to do whatever he wants with. I'm just putting my two cents in and letting him know a lopey idle might in that motor might not be all he'd hoped it would be. On paper it sounds good, but in practice it might not be.

    That's all. :)

  19. Ah who cares what Jessie says anyway.

Truth is that on all of these camshaft threads no matter what you post the OP is never happy. Then some of his dummer friends always chime in and they aren't happy either. Before long no one is happy.

It never has anything to do with performance its all about hey looky me, I got my cuffs rolled perfect and I'm using the best pomade that I can get with what I earn down at the burger shack.

OK that was mean, and judgmental too. Hot damn two with one stroke.

the stock Nailhead cams are pretty lumpy at idle as they are.

Huh? guys will do anything to get the "look" they want their car to have... no matter how impracticable it might be. Like squeezing into a radically chopped coupe and sitting on some aluminum seats with no padding just to keep from hitting their heads on the roof a little less... or running some ****py old school skinny bias ply tires just for the looks. So whats wrong with going for the sound your looking for? If he thinks his car should sound a certain way is that any different than him feeling his car should look a certain way? Its his car and his vision of what it should be, not ours.
