I need a new front clip for my '51 Ford Coupe project. I know FATMANFAB makes a Mustang II front clip for the 51 but looking for competitive options to compare. Any ideas???
Clipped it with a s10 front end..will cost less more than fatmans..that want I plan to do to my car..
Currently it has a '85 Buick front clip on it. I'm gonna have major clearance issues because it's too wide when it's on bags. I looked for shorter Aarms, drop spindles..etc (not much out there for 85 buick regal) and I'd still have to replace all the other components cause it's been sitting around for a while. It's cheaper to get a new front clip at this point and have reliable new or newer parts. I'll check into the S10 front clip...thanks!
$$$$$$$$$$$ wise the S-10 clip is probably your best bet. You should be able to use most of the pieces off the Regal clip over though. I'm pretty sure that the A arms, spindles and steering box will swap over. You would need the clip and center steering link for sure though. A little research on what you can reuse to save a few bucks might save you some cash in the long run.
K i'm looking at some s10 front clips. What year/model is best compatible to an original 51 Ford Coupe frame?
get your measuring tape out and hit the wrecking yards.the advice given is dead on,but nothing like seeing for yourself.
These shots of my frame have been around a few years. It's 70 Nova. No I didn't narrow it. I now have 12K miles on the car and wouldn't change a thing. I like the fact the steering box is behind the A-Frames instead of out front. The Wizzard
uh, theres lots of stuff available for a 85 regal, same chassis as the monte carlo, cutlass and gran prix, the s10 uses all the same components, the crossmember and centerlink are narrower on the s10. there are several different length control arms available for that chassis.
Welcome-the chop on your ride looks well done, as shown in alum of your Public Profile. did you do it? yes, Da Tinman is right on parts. guess depends on width of clip compared to S10. S10 is on the narrow side for Shoebox, so a little wider track may work. just select rims with good offset/width to do the job. do not want wide rims/tires anyway when you bag it.
I need about 2" on each side to have clearance in the front. I've been looking for shorter control arms but can't find 'em. Guess i'm looking in the wrong place...any good places to look? @jalopy Joker- My friend at Stones Metal Shop in Gardena, CA is doing the metal work. Thanks for the replies! This is all definitely helping me out!!
K it's been a long time since I was on here. Update: We decided to get a different frame all together. It's a stock '51 frame unmolested and straight. Figured it would be a good start for a solid, dependable driver. It's getting some c-notches in the rear with a triangulated 4-link suspension and shockwave bags. For the front we decided to keep it original. I've seen a lot of shoebox's close to the ground with dropped uprights and bags. In addition, since I want mine on the ground...we're just going to make the kick-up in the frame a little higher bringing the front lower. More additions: Got some real nice 3" whites by Coker Classic mounted on chromed 15" steel wheels. That's all for now...hopefully it won't take this long to get on here again. Pictures will follow soon.
