Does anyone know what's going on at Jamco? Or perhaps Jim, who frequents the board and is a HAMB vendor, will see this. And before I get into this let me be clear. This is NOT to slag Jim (who is a great guy and super helpful when ya can get ahold of him) or Jamco whatsoever. I'm just looking for info.
Here's the deal- I ordered some 3" cut coils and shocks over a month ago. When I made the purchase I was told 2-3 weeks for delivery. I did talk to Jim last week and he told be he had been very sick and was actually hospitalized for a few days. There was no shipping info on my stuff. He was going to look into it and call me back the next day. That never happened and my follow up emails and voice mails have not been answered.
I don't mean to sound like an a-hole, and can certainly understand that serious illness can interfere with running a business. At the same time, I would like my parts, or at least an update on where they are and when I can expect delivery.
Does anyone know if Jim's been hospitalized again?

It's not that difficult to have someone set email for an "out of office reply" explanation if ya can't do it yourself.(Unless you have no help available) That would at least provide an answer rather than just going dark. I understand that this is hot rodding and not PepBoys, and that things can take time. Again I'm not pissed and I'm not slagging, but I am looking for info, not opinion.
I also like Jim, and hope he is OK.

Jim is a good guy, You have to remember Jamco is a one man show, so it might take a little longer for call backs etc. Be patient Jamco stuff is top notch!

yea true, but it sound like he needs help, making people wait is not always a good thing, im sure you will get your stuff, but having to wait a year to get your parts, thats just bad business! jim if you are ill i wish you a speedy recovery!

Is there an alternative to Jamco, or are they pretty much it? I am curious for my own self as I am very close to needing to order a bunch of stuff. I called Jamco several days ago and left a VM and still have not heard back.

Sure, though it depends what you are looking for. Eaton is supposedly really good, though they only go to 2" cuts on some (if not not all) coil springs. Still if that's not low enough you can always take off more yourself. They tell me they have a 2-4 day turnaround on most orders.

Man oh man i was gonna start this thread myself a while back i swear .Same shit here with jamco i will spare everyone all the details as they dont really matter and it seems like ordering parts from anyone theres always some sort of problem. For me what was so upsetting is the fact that they charged my account right away for parts they didnt have in stock and had no idea when they were getting .Wich made it a a pain to get my money back after i decided to cancel that part of my order as it went to the wrong account the first time, most places dont charge till they ship.but most upsetting is the fact that you cant get ahold of anyone there e mail or by phone there were days i would call over and over again trying to get in touch with someone sometimes for hours .honestly would it kill them to pay someone 8 bucks an hour to answer the f--king phone if so i can honestly say it wouldnt of bothered me that bad knowing my order wasnt just being ignored.with that being said not trying to make any enemies they were very pollite and apologetic and took care of my problems when i did get ahold of someone.just not good buisness if you ask me and i wont order from them again. fwooo, glad i got that off my chest!

  18. Dunno anything about Jamco, but can't say enough good things about Eaton. Through a miscommunication, they sent the wrong coils. I ran them for 6 months and wasn't happy. Called them up and explained the coils were wrong and how we crossed wires with each other. They sent replacements before I even had time to package the original shipment back to them. No hassle, no questions, full credit on the returned set. I'll use them again. Good people and I've always gotten a knowledgable person on the phone when I've called.

It's really disturbing to hear that this sort of poor business , communication and delivery problems is standard operating procedure at Jamco. I just ordered a set of 3" cut rear coils(a bit against my better judgement). But having recently installed the 3" cuts up front my car is not sitting level. It's almost an inch lower on the right(front and back) than the left. I figure it's because my 57 year old heated shot ass rear coils are throwing everything off)..So, instead of buying some of the decent and innexpensive air ride stuff that's currently on ebay and just bagging the rear, I'm gonna try and see if a static drop with brand new coils all the way around sorts this out. If not I will switch the front one's (right and left) and see if they are faulty..Hope not, and hope this transaction goes smoothly. I'm really giving Jim the benifit of a doubt as most recently it took him and entire fucking month to re-credit my account after I shipped (and he had received) some incorrect shocks back to him. Maybe at this point I'm an idiot for doing business with him. But, I really don't think he's a bad or sketchy guy..just a super disorganized businessman. And I want to get my whole stance issue sorted out., which has been difficult as we have been balls deep in snow all winter.

talked to Jim yesterday. He said he had no proof of payment. (I paid Oct.26). I then sent him proof(paypal receipt). He told me the order is now marked as paid and He'll get started on it asap. and that he needed the info on my car. ( i gave this to him with my payment). Im sorry but this is just plain horrible business. Is it gonna take a year? In order for the parts to be worth the wait, they better be gold plated. atleast throw in some freebies or some shit.
I know, I know, one man operation, nice guy etc... Im not disputing any of that, but If I ran a business in htis manner would everyone keep cutting me slack like they do to Jamco? I doubt it.

Jim refunded some of my shipping charge today as an apology. I really appreciated that. maybe he does just need to get a secretary or something. I look forward to receiving the goods.

I have been calling Jamco off and on since end of January and finally reached Jim. Busy guy for sure. He is sending out replacement stuff at no cost! Even paying to ship back the bad stuff. Jim was really cool. I look forward to getting my car back on the road.

At this point I to am a unhappy customer. I read this thread and had some hesitation about ordering from Jamco but decided to give Jim a chance.

I ordered the deluxe lowering kit for my '69 chevy wagon on March 20th. While ordering, I accidently put in the wrong drop for the rear springs and realized it once I printed my reciept. On Monday March 21st I called Jamco and spoke to Jim to correct my mistake with no problems. I was told they would ship in 7 to 10 days. That was nothing like what I read on the HAMB I thought to myself after I hung up and was feeling good about my decision to purchase.

Since Jamco does not have a way to track your order like many companies do now days, I called to check on the status around the 7 day mark. No Response after repeated calls and messages left. At this point I am pissed off at the lack of response and customer service.

Then I come home from work to find two boxes sitting on my steps. Great! The boxes were received within the time frame Jim had stated. I was thinking as I open the boxes if only he had returned my calls I would not have been pissed off and would have spread the good word about his company.

As I open the boxes I realize I did not get shipped the shocks and bumps stops that come with the deluxe lowering kit. I only received the front and rear coil springs. Was there another boxes containing these items lost in shipping or were they not shipped at all? At that point I had no idea because there is no packing list to be found. Ran the Delivery Notice Number left by FedEx. Comes back two boxes with the exact weight of the springs.

I called and left a message to find out what's up. No return call! Another e-mail sent asking for an answer. No Response! I stated in my message and my e-mail that if he did not ship the remaining parts that he could credit my account the difference and I would buy the shocks locally. Also asked for him to please respond so that I knew which direction I had to go to finish the car.

Multiple calls made over and over last Friday. You can't even leave a message on the answering machine any more.

At this point is it a mistake, maybe a misunderstanding or am I getting ripped off! A simple returned call or e-mail could have easily changed my experince from one of becoming pissed off and feeling like I might be getting f#$ked to a great experience.

There is no excuse for not responding to customers. If I took that approach in my job I'd be in the unemployment line in a hurry.

I spoke with Jim today and got everything straightened out. In an effort to make up for the misunderstanding Jim offered to ship the balance of my order via UPS 3 day shipping.

Thanks for taking care of this issue Jim.
