Cherry Bombs! Disturbing the peace since 1968! :D I had a pair that had header flanges welded on the inlet... I had those on my Z/28 back in the early '80's.. I got ticketed for those things.. :( I ended fixing that problem by bolting on 2 Cal turbo mufflers and some pipe before the rear axle.. Problem solved and I didn't have to pay a fine. :)

  4. I've used Thrush Turbos on my last 2 cars and like the sound alot. Nice deep mellow sound behind a SBC.

I have some 24" ish cherry bombs on my 62 C10 with a 283 coming out the side in front of each rear tire and it is load and sounds pretty good. I like flowmaster sound too...but not for this truck...maybe a later 60's muscle car of some sort.

I had a pair of those, actually "turbo tubes" with same strait through cambered design, on my truck. They were loud, I loved the way they sounded. Then I swapped out my c6 for an aod, the overdrive dropped my cruising rpm right into the dreaded drone spot. I ended up swaping to magnaflows and the drone has gone away. The magnaflows still sound aggressive but are much quieter than the "turbo tubes".

  13. Well I can't believe more haven't mentioned Magnaflows. They are stainless & they sound good on my Y-block, not too loud, just right for me.

I went from 3" flowmasters to 3" Dynomax ultra flo welded stainless mufflers and love them! they are alot quieter than the flowmasters and still sound *****in. The best part is when you are on the gas it lets everyone know you mean business then when you are at a stoplight its nice an mellow. I also gained HP and torque!

  15. i have some turbo tubes sitting in my garage....not sure what they're going to go on.

Budget....I put Midas Rhinos on my Buick almost 10 years ago along with the duals. Those things were very reasonable with a nice mellow yet noticable sound. Haven't had any prob with them and they will be on that car for the next 10 years I expect.

i must be to young,,,, me nor any one i have talked to remebers porter mufflers,,,,,, at least here in texas ,,,,,, i wish i could come up with a product and swear that its vintage ,,, so i can make a killing on crazy people !!!!!!!!!

i've been doing some reading in old custom mags from 50's and 60's,,,, all ve seen is straight pipe exhaust ,,,, not many mufflers ,,, thats true era correct ,,,,,,,

there are many mufflers out their ,,,, all pretty close to each other ,,,, what are you looking for ???

sound or flow????? thats the real question

  19. I have a pair of Hushpower stainless muffler on my caddy. It sounds really nice. It has a nice mellow idle and cruising tone, but when you hammer the throttle its throaty and has a nice gl***pack style rap to it. They arn't cheap...but definately sound awesome.

Here is an old Porter ad from Hot Rod Magazine. They started in 1931. Also, a display from a car show (Porters behind the car). I have more on my computer at the shop. I can attach more ads and more "proof" that they are TRUE vintage mufflers. Still Hand-crafted and made the same as they were back in the beginning. Also, The famous Dave Bell (Henry HiRise) from Street Rodder magazine remembers the Porters and he loves them!!
