Welcome to the H.A.M.B. from Nor Cal and the Cam-Snappers Hot Rod Club! Check out the club group! Love to have ya! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/g...hp?groupid=619
Thank you all for the welcome. I think this site is great . I'm trying to figure out how to do some things here and so will likely make some stupid mistakes posting.. but I'll catch on. I met you Marcia at Loring last year. I've known Gary Gustafson and hios family for about 12 years and it was actually Gary and I who helped dave Fortin move to North Carolina ....that's when I drove Dave's coupe and got the bug again. Gary made the mistake of giving me the keys somewhere around Carlisle and that was it....I never gave them back until we had to stop in NC. I have a 48 Ford Coupe that I build. Some details....Chevy 350 , 700R4, Granada 8-inch w/3:55 gears, Fatman MII with 11-in. rotors and power rack . I'm building what I guess you would call a Bobber Pickup. I'm using the cab of a 1947 Ford 1/2 ton PU I bought last Fall that Gary helped me drag home from Buxton. I've build my own frame from 2x4 rectangular tubing and have mounted a 8-inch Granada rear on buggy springs up back. I'n in the process of installing a 41 Ford axle up front. Once this is done I plan to go back and change the rear to coil springs. I have parts for a 47 Pickup if anyone needs something. The flathead is stuck, but the open driveshaft rear , 3-speed top loader tranny , and driveshaft are good. Also have the complete nose wich is in great shape. I'll try for some pictures later. Thanks again for the welcome, John
Hi John, After I looked at your profile page , I knew who you were. Gary and his brother installed the fatman MII in my coupe. Always promoting the sport. Its a good family to know. Get some pictures of your truck on here!
Marcia, I'll try to get some pictures soon. If I'm not mistaken you live on what we called the Front Ridge Road (Rt 15) in Orland. I grew up in Penobscot so I know the area well. I hope to drive Gary's Vette at Maxton or Loring this year. Great to hear from you. John
Yes, you've got it right. Do you have plans to go to Maxton? I'd like to see the grin on your face after you've made your first pass in the corvette!
John, Welcome from Brewer Me. Sounds like you have a cool project underway. Hopefully mud season will arive before long as some of us would rather be driving than wrenching in the garage. If all goes well there should be a big gathering of us in Loring. Mark
Gary has offered to let me drive since he was driving Sam's 1034....I just never took him up on it. But lately I have developed the "need for speed", and I believe I will. I went to Loring last year with the plan to drive if there was time, but then Katie broke the Corvette ( I really think Gary broke it ) , and that was that. I've been doing the Richard Petty thing ....driving a couple times at Loudon and a few weeks ago at Charlotte. Its fun, but so far speed has been limited to 140. I've been thinking about going to Maxton, I only wish the swap meet at Charlotte Motor Speedway was the same weekend ....I'd like to do both. But my brother lives in McLeansville, NC ( just east of Greensboro ) so I could stay the week and take in both. I'll have to think about that. Jeez ,that's not far away ...I'd better get thinking. John
