I put them in the office when I'm welding, the goggles wont stay on them and they have both told me they dont like helmets.

Seriously, I dont take any chances with their health and well being. Any time I'm doing anything that they might get injured I run them in the office. Curiosity has killed many cats, and I dont think I could take it if it happened to one of mine.

They do not go outside either. Any antifreeze or other poisons are stored in closed jugs, or in closed buckets.

this is the first time I even saw them,, they were there for 3-4 days before I got to see them, and I was thinkin it was just one.

Very cool Jay. Is this the same door you showed me in Indy a few weeks back? I have a battery box to make for my Triumph. Think I'll get my rocks and sticks out. :D

Far and away, I enjoy your tech articles the most! Not only for your furry counterparts, but because you take what appear to be difficult concepts to accomplish without specialty toos, and you turn them into caveman simple projects!

  12. Clever idea, impressive craftsmanship.... just another day for da tinman!

Thanks, Jay, for a well-written, easy to follow, inspiring thread. Good pics, too.

got some more pics today,, heres why you dont use the stocker as a pattern.
    its not exactly square!

mines not perfect but I think it will do.

now for the contour, I tried for a while to get a decent pic but camera is dumber than I am and wouldnt focus .

anyway, it doesnt show well but the upper portion is off by 3/16".

this ones dead on. the gap on the right side isnt there when its bolted to the hinges, the tape slipped a bit, or at least thats my story.

This is a cool idea.I can see the use of the way you build it coming in handy on a lot of things. First thing comes to mind is a gas door.

    You bet!

It occurred to me today that this can be applied to any car or truck, from the first ones ever built to the new one parked in your driveway.

It can be used for other things besides automotive stuff as well.

Again, thanks for the comments and replies!

Lee, yeah thats the door you saw.

  23. Man, I admire your patience. So much effort for such a small thing. Wow! How long it take, and how much did you charge for that? I gotta know

If you leave out the engineering time it took less than 2 hours to do the door. It would have taken more time to rehash the stocker into doing what I needed, and it still wouldnt have fit the hole. :D

I should also admit that I have alot more time in the hinges than the door. Getting the pivots in the right place, getting the shape corrrect so the stops hit before the door hits the dash and such eats a lot of time. Luckily Sam had a spare dash to use for mockin up that part.

as far as price, Sam is paying a flat rate per week and I'm not charging him enough, but I'd rather be broke and busy, rather than broke and bored shitless.

Heres the pic of the control box with the stuff installed. Note that it has legs on the sides to fill in the gaps where the stocker had its pivots.
