The best thing was that even a "kid" could afford a cool car. I paid $1100 for this car.

In '75 everything was a poor imitation of the previous decade. I was driving a '75 Mustang II Mach 1 with a V6. Even working guys could afford a new car, but figured we'd never see V8 powered cars again.

We believed everything from JCWhitney would really increase gas mileage, especially taping 2 cow magnets along the fuel line to "excite" the gas molecules for increased atomization. Chrome-plated plastic parts.

Cars were Pinto's, Maverick's and Mustang IIs. AMC Pacers and Gremlins. Nova's and Vega's. Darts and Dusters. Not much to brag about in '75. De-tuned, timing retarded engines trying to make EPA smog laws happy i.e. 351M

I would die a happy man if the 70s were never to fall under this magnificent board's umbrella of "traditional"

Tha 70s...man. How can I sum this up. My street car was a 68 Camero with a 327 and a glide. My race car was a 1959 Hillman panel truck, Chrysler 440 with a 727. Push button shifter, headers, engle cam, holley 850. Inside of motor was stock. 9" Ford rear that I narrowed in metal shop. No rear suspension steel wheels and dirt track slicks. Mufler tubing roll bar. The only splurge was new seat and shoulder belts. Drum rear brakes and no front brakes.
In 78 I graduated to Front Engine Dragsters. There were a lot for sale.....Too Cool....Thanks

2 years ago, about 10 min. after we unloaded the sedan delivery, the first project we tackled was removing that petrified "HI JACKER" sticker off the firewall.

    Didn't see this one mentioned.
After jacking up the rear, placing colored lights in the rear wheel wells, or on the bottom shock mounts. Or both.

Festival seating at concerts. Those were the days.
And a concert only cost about $5.00.
Damn, that girl on the left in that pic is (was) hot!

I remember society being far less uptight about everything.
If it feels good, do it!

Feathered hair cuts for dudes and chicks, N-50-15's about 3 inches past the wheel well and fat rubber up front, a blue or red light set up above the rear end housing, bolt on hood scoops (Mopar style) Kraco stereo (not sure about the spelling) rear side windows full of stickers and Prism vinyl lettering (which said Chevy or Ford )which came in silver and if you had it together, gold. cuz it was a down right up tight out-a-site stone gas brother.

I was born in '75, but as soon as I was old enough to remember, I remember seeing some hot rods and customs from the seventies...

    Jacked up ass ends
    Sidepipes
Scrolling pinstriping (which I think is bitchen)
    Super Shops traction bars
    Hurricane wheels
colored lights in the fender wells
    bubble windows
    Square headlight conversions
    Shag carpet

Ansen Automotive-'27 T bucket with your choice of a 16" or 24" pickup bed on a rolling chassis for $2200.00. Clean used SS Chevys from the 60's for $1000.00 or less. Model A Fords that a feller could drive home for $100 to $200 some times less. Ford flathead V-8 cars that folks would give away if you would take it "right now".
Wish I could go back there and know what I know now.

  21. Chrome slots, Protrac 60's or 50's tires or tiger paw red lines, yellow traction bars (just restored a set last week), air shocks with shackles, in door speakers, 8 tracks and spring loaded reverb units. Cherry bomb, thrush or tiger brand glass packs. Side pipes and fiberglass hood scoops. Sun tach on the column and tripple gauge units mounted under dash. Amber/yellow fog lights. Everything had bucket seats and all the cars in the local auto shows looked like this...:D

Lot of folks badmouthing the 70's here, lot have good memories. It was what you made of it, like any other time. As has been said before, if you wanted a job it was there, money was pretty easy to come by.
Rod & Custom cover Nov 1973 and a couple of other memories.
And the JJ pic posted above came from the Jungle Pam thread, so I'm pretty sure it's her.

BTW, I think we did the long shackles and Firestone Wide Ovals in the late 60's.

Long hair, rock & roll and "Death before Disco" t-shirts.. Dazed and confused some of the time and don't ask why. :D Had a wild time with my old '68 Camaro convertible and partying down at Hines Dr. with all the ladies.. Them are times I'll never forget..

I was 10 years old in 74 so that is probably one reason I love many of the cars from that time. And rodders really did "dare to be different" then, check coverage of early 70s rod runs, lots of non-Ford stuff, lots of fenders and sedans, touring cars etc.

Check out the tandem-axle Chevy truck - wonder what happened to it?

The 32 three window is certainly proto-street rod, but it has a nice stance and the painted Buick wires are great.

I picked this PHR cover for obvious reasons, the Hemi powered 39 Chevy and the 29 RPU with Halibrands & 'stones.

  30. Exactly. I never met a hippy chick that shaved anything.
I never liked hippies but I did like hippy chicks.
