  3. When I was just out of my apprenticeship ,I stuck a 1 inch chisel into the side of the first knuckle on my left index finger. Off we go to get s***ches, take the afternoon offcuz it was Friday. Monday ,back at work, nailing into a 2x4 over my head.....Blammo! removed all but one s***ch. Masking tape and a Kim towel work well to stop the flow!!

If I am not bleeding somewhere after working on my beast I must not have been working at all.

Four cuts yesterday trying to get a dash pad out of a 70's Plymouth with the windshield in and surrounded by snow. I was more worried about reaching blind into some critters mouth. Its like have razor wire inside some of these dash's.

I usually get some s****es while I'm working, and the occasional big cut. I make the paper towel and masking tape bandages a lot, and if it's big, I'll use some super-glue to close it up like others here as well.

The kind of cuts I dislike are when you're cutting something with an X-acto using a straight-edge and the tip of your finger is hanging just past the straight-edge and you slice it right off with the blade. Once I did that and had a handful of blood by the time I got to the sink about 12 feet away. In architecture school we built a lot of models and guys used to pin their cut-off fingertips to the wall as a badge of honor...it happened a lot!

I can deal with run-of-the-mill cuts, but smashing a finger is the worst. Last year I was pumping the floor jack to lift a car in a hurry and on the downstroke, my hand slipped and slammed into the concrete...hard. That sh!t hurts for a long time. Lost the fingernail too...that's always fun. Went back out and finished the job though!

Getting cut is a regular thing for me too, but the 2 that scared the **** out of me were both at work, both times it was a 9" grinder, got snagged on something I was cutting and ended up taking the grinder in the belly. Twice! The clothes slow it down a bit, but it took out a chunk both times. Could have been worse though!

Pulled the water pump off my car yesterday dried blood on the bottom of it. Don't even remember bleeding on it. I think I am up to 86 s***ches total the worst when a fan blade broke off and hit me in the chest and arm.

  10. I use straight masking tape, the blue towels restricts my fingers from moving.
Blue tape does not hold when wet with blood.....

  11. Cuts are bad enough but when I slip on the bench grinder that hurts worse than most cuts to me. Maybe gloves would help.

I have more of a problem of smashing, jamming or poking my fingers than anything. Seems everyday I work on one of my projects I get hurt. Word around the shop is I can't work on nothin without getting hurt, and it ****s.

This is how it usually goes. Wrench slips off of rusty bolt, finger jams against sharp corner, 5 minutes of cussing and holding my finger ensue, then back to work using the box end instead.

  14. one day i was checking the drip rail area where the hood sits in admiring my work with my fingers until i found the wire brush strand that was stuck in something unitl it wedged itself under my finger nail.....

we actually keep a bottle of frozen water inthe gargage frig for moments like grabbing headders

Working bridge construction, they always said "If you fall, make sure you're dead. It's cheaper for the company than having you rack up medical bills". Nice bunch right?
