Me and my girl just picked up this book from a bookstore/museum(J&RVintage Auto Museum) in Rio Rancho, NM... It has pics of abandoned cars from all over the country... Very cool stuff...

BTW- The J&R is an awesome museum...kind of hidden, but if you live here or you come to visit, look it up. Awesome place, awesome people... I highly recommend it to any car guy... JC62

I believe the yard you are referring to was the Hebelka Salvage Yard that was about 9 miles west of Allentown just North of Rte 22 (just past Rte. 100). Huge yard (~20 acres) that used to cover an entire hillside. Apparently, it was in operation from 1958-1979. Helluva site to see.

Never got to go into the yard, but passed it frequently on trips from Harrisburg to the Lehigh Valley to visit relatives when I was a kid. Cool to see a pic from it - would love to see more or hear any stories from that yard.

I tried to start a thread on this yard about a year ago, but it got buried pretty quick A fellow HAMBer told me that the owners passed away and the son was soon sued by the Feds for having an illegal junkyard and he cleaned it out (crushed it). He is standing up to the gov and they have a lien on the property as a superfund site.

He still has a few old cars on the hill and has started to buy and sell scrap metal again, but the government will eventually take the property.
he's pretty bitter, because he grew up there and there was never a problem until the property changed hands with his parents death.

I wouldn't know what to offer on something like this. What would this be worth if you could talk the guy into selling it?

There is a 49-51 merc thats been sitting with a bunch of other cars (almost all the others are much newer cars) in a vacant but fenced lot here for the last few years. It looks very solid.

I've had it on mine, it usually sits on top of my bedroom dresser.

I stuck it on this seized 54 Y block for the photo, but my brother used to run this on his 57 Mercury M100 and I will run it on my 28 A RPU eventually... unless I start driving a different Y Block car in the mean time! (I saved those Mercury Y Block valve covers too)

LN7, I'd like to add a hearty word of praise to what others
have already said. Dog's GREAT photo stash has made this
thread always worth tuning in to. :) But YOUR self-shot
selection adds an equally wonderful added dimension!
You, sir, start by almost apologizing for your "artsy" style,
then show some of the best close-up and detail studies I
have seen. Just giving credit: You have a great eye for
composing shots, as well as for texture, light (natural and
flash/strobe), color and, of course, subject matter. Did I
    miss anything? :D LOL

Dude, I could stare at your pix all day. It's just like being
there, taking a leisurely stroll, oblivious the time! :p TOO
    many to even pick favorites!
