    OK, I'm a dick !!!!!

While the coupe is pretty damn cool, the disk brakes, summit style valve covers and the braided steel lines, jegs/summit/any of 1000- vendor air cleaner make this a STREET ROD !!!

Close to HAMB stuff, but no cigar

Looks and sounds good. Imagine if you were building a 1926 Fiat "rod" with requestite 59AB, would it turn out this good? Even if the trim doesn't win Best of... it looks like a quality build.

I like the way people back off at the highest rev's. Put some old timey part's in place of the "politically-incorrect-non-traditional-one's to be forgiven!

Well Kerry, if it makes you feel better, it's long since too late for us, your side won a long time ago. The HAMB became a generic "cool car" forum some time ago. Its ironic, I own a '66 chevy II a '67 Falcon, and a couple mopars. None of them hamb friendly, so I dont post them on the HAMB. However, I belong to a Chevy II forum, a Falcon forum, and a couple of Mopar forums. If I post about my Falcon on the Chevy II forum, I will get REAMED by everyone on the forum, and NO ONE will say "Well fuck you guys, I dont care if its not a chevy II, I think its COOL. I HATE Chevy II's, Guys who like Chevy II's are elitist, small dicked assholes". If I post the Chevy II on the Falcon forum, the same thing will happen. But I could post ANY of my cars on the HAMB, Including my '70 Duster, and if anyone even DARES to MENTION that its not a traditional rod,a dozen guys will IMMEDIATELY spring to my defense, and say "Well I think its COOL", guys who like traditional cars are assholes! I HATE traditional cars! Guys with traditional cars have small dicks."
Thats why, unlike the Chevy II and Falcon forums I belong to, the HAMB has no direction, and has pretty much lost its relevance. Contrary to Ryans vision, it has become a generic "cool car" board. Its not even a generic "street rod" board, whatever any individual member thinks is "cool" is now considered on topic. Isnt it GREAT??!!
If recent posts are any indication, you can rest easy and sleep well tonight, any posts that actually relate to traditional cars will represent a slim minority, and I am sure that in the near future, they will be the only cars that you CANT post on the HAMB.

I can see it now. "Hey, whats that thing doing on the HAMB??!! Looks like one of those traditional rods!"

Yes, I know, I know, I'm an asshole...

  19. Good one George you are dead right the HAMB could easily bog down with dickheads.

  20. Wow. :-/ Building a hot rod to me has always been about using what I had, in a way that looked and felt right, to take an old car and improve it's performance. If you had to ask what was "right" then it probably couldn't be explained to you. There are LOTS of things folks could pick on about my ride but they don't because I made it all blend in. In fact I challenge you to pick out which part came from a VW and which came from the Hundai. Regardless I built her for me and nobody else and that's the key. Passion. For the car, for the building, and for the driving. And yes, we need to keep it about on topic cars. I'm just sick to death of the HAMB police deciding for me.

Here is a blurb that Ryan wrote about the why's wherefors of the HA/GR cars. It is a very similar discussion. It's entirely possible to build a car within the rules laid out and totally miss the real reason.

Alex and Ryan, if this is out of line lock the thread down. In fact this thread is all about drama so lock it down regardless. Even so here's what he had to say about the HA/GR class...

"Nothing ever stays the same. You can't build fences around life. It's just this on going process of evolution and change and growth and death. Everything in my life fits that bill... except for surfing. That's because I surf for me."

I stole that from a movie called "A Brokedown Melody" and right about now you are either calling me crazy or a hippie... But hang on.

I grew up racing and spent most of my adolescent years getting paid to do it. It's a business and just like any other business, you put on a suit and you go to work with one goal in mind - growth. If you don't grow, you die... but when you do grow, evolution takes over. And it's not something you or I can control. It's an organic process... and in the case of every auto racing venture/series ever started, this process killed the one thing that was responsible for starting the venture in the first place - passion.

Once growth starts and evolution kicks in, the money race... the ego race... the competitive race... They all start to change things. No longer is Eddie going to the track just for love. He's going for other more powerful reasons that destroy the original intent. Innocence, more than anything, is lost.

The guy that couldn't build a fence around his life, could around his surfing passion because he wasn't doing it for any other reason than to enjoy HIMSELF. He could care less if there were three people to share the waves with or 20... He was there for himself.

I've always felt the HA/GR class should share the same intent. I don't care if there are 3 cars or 20... 1 event or 10... It's not a commercial endeavor. It's not an organized endeavor. These cars aren't fast, so it can't be a competitive one... It has to be one of passion.

I honestly believe that any fella that builds one of these cars with the intent of reaching the outside world in anyway is doing it for the wrong reasons. These cars need to be selfish. They need to be all about the guy(s) that built it and drive it. People that haven't built one (myself included) shouldn't be involved in these conversations. They are just noise.

I guess the bottom line is this... The HA/GR class was not built for fellas to live vicariously through an affordable form of racing. It wasn't built to see who can out think who with a flathead or who can out spend who with a straight 6. It was built for guys that have an honest passion for early drag racing... the foundation of it all... and as a way for the right guy to build a fence around his own passion.

I'm afraid some folks are in it for the wrong reasons - and that's OK. They will get frustrated and move on... I just hope there are at least 1 or 2 guys out there that are banging gears with blinders on and a big ass smile on their face.

Wow, of all the cars to bring out the 'That doesn't fit here' brigade I didn't think it would be a chopped T coupe with whitewalls!
Where were all of you on some of the shit that has popped up here in the past??

Oh no, it's got disc brakes?? It's got fucking SPINDLE MOUNTS !!

Chopped, channeled, Bias plies, whitewall slicks, open headers, Moon tank..

I agree the HAMB needs a focus, I just think you picked the wrong car to prove your point.
