I have to pull the windshield and side window out of my Dad's A100 so it can go off to get stripped. Any advice on removing them. The opening windows just unscrew from the frames. Its the fixed windows I need some advice with. ( I will be replacing window rubber fyi) I thank you in advance
Remove all the trim, inside and out. Cut away the rubber with a razor blade and have someone gently push from the inside? I doubt there is anything all that special about that van, but you could ask on an a100 forum
just did my '65 a couple of weeks ago. do what hellfish says to do. it will take 2 people to take out and put knew rubber in. also use lots of soap because it is a real tight fit. it doesn't matter what side you start with either. we found that it was easier starting from the bottom and working our way up when installing the glass. the rubber stretches. the more lubricant the better. good luck.
Nothing needs to be cut I just removed all the glass in my 68 a108 van two months ago. It all came out fine. It does takes two people though. What you need: Can of WD-40, 4-6 inch socket extension Thin Nylon rope. One friend. Nerves of steel ;-) The side windows - On the INSIDE of the van, hose the rubber down with the WD-40. Run the Nylon rope around the whole window seal working it in between the rubber and the metal. Lube it up REALLY well with the WD-40 (I know it's not really a lubricant.). Once you have the nylon rope all the way around tie both ends together and around the socket extension (I was originally told to use a screw driver but this seemed to work better for me). Twist it so that the nylong rope tightens, in turn compressing the rubber. Station your friend on the outside ready to catch. With your hand FLAT on the glass start pushing around the edge breaking the seal. Takes more pressure that you might think (this is where the nerves of steel come in). Once you get one corner / side worked loose it should slide right out. Let me locate the pics I'll post'em. Installation is reversal of removal. The Front window - On the outside there is a key lock rubber strip thing. Peel that out all the way around. Hose the rubber down with WD-40 inside and out. With your friends ready to catch, work out one piece of glass at a time. Then the rubber gasket pretty much flops out. Good luck. I had never done it before prior to this. I was told "once you get the hang of it it's easy". I started with one of the smaller windows in on the side - SCARY the first time, but easy.
Yep, cut if old and tired, remove as said if nice and flexible. As for the front door, you gotta pull the vent window/frame out to get the window out. Remove the bolt inside at the bottom. Pull the rubber back about one inch down the front and there will be a Phillips screw holding the frame to the door. There is another under the middle bottom. You can see this one looking up inside the door, where there is a tab from the inside and outside panels that overlap. With the vent window loose, wind down the window and pull out the weatherstrip around the frame. Now tilt the vent window back and then remove. Remove the window. I wrote up a post for them here http://vintage-vans.forumotion.com/t12371-stripping-front-doors
