The Battery in my Buick is wasted, and it happens to be hu****us, like a truck battery, and all the big batteries i have come across have been pricey. Other than having to modify the tray, would i run into any problems running a smaller regular sized battery?
You shouldn't have any trouble, as long as you can get it to fit and it's the right voltage. Look at the cold cranking amps rating, cheap batteries and small batteries are lower, big batteries and expensive batteries are higher. but I run $30 wal mart batteries in my BBC powered stuff...
I dont have any special accessories in my car so if a wal-mart bttery can crank a BBC im sure it can handle the straight 8, thanks.
The rule of thumb I was taught was to multiply your cubic inch by two, that should be the minimum cold cranking amps you need for a stock engine. Tons of compression, or gear reduction starters could skew that though......
Have you found any 6 volt replacement batteries? If not, I believe you can order one from Buick world that should fit in the stock battery tray (if you're still using it). the number there is (360) 825-3787. Make sure they have it in stock before you order it, otherwise you'll have to wait a while, while they search for one.
If that does not work out check one of the Farm supply stores I buy 6 volt batterys there about $35 if i rember right.
