For the last few years I've been patiently waiting for the right 4 banger to come along for my roadster pickup. But the few I've heard about were ether beyond my budget or I've been way to late. This week I crossed paths with this. It's been in storage since '81 when it was removed from a '29 RPU that was put back to stock. The guy I got it from didn't know much about it except that it was a model 'B'. Over the next few months I'm going to put this along with a '36 rear with 3.54 gears in my RPU that has all model A running gear now. It should be a big improvement. Here's what I've found out about in the last few days mostly through HAMB searches and looking through my stack of S.O.S.S. mags...

Model 'B' Diamond block '36 to?
    Counter balanced crank
    Winfield 6.00 cast iron head
Burns intake with two large logo 97's
    Crager side cover
Auburn Thelander clutch & lightened flywheel
    B-7006 gear box '32-'34
    The pan has been modified.
I don't know what the distributor is?
The cylinder walls look perfect I dont think it has allot of miles on it.
I'm going to make a stand for it and pull the pan next week. I'm sure I'll have some questions along the way. Thanks for looking.

Rear mount is 32 only as casper said. Trans case is 32-34 four cylinder only... trans top is 32 only. Block and Oil pan are 32 - 34 . Nice find...Best of luck !!

Thanks for setting me straight on my trans. That must be why there is no
    # preceding the 7006 only a letter B on my trans case.

  12. Thats a nice lil engine there. I'd pop the jets out of the carbs and see what size they are. I had a B similar to yours and I could never get two 97's to run on it even with a heathy Winfield cam, so had to get some 81's. Also, is it still babbit? Take the side cover off and see if it has been converted to full pressure. It may have been worked over inside :D

Great find! I wonder if you'll need a '32 K member if you plan to put the whole package in your A chassis?

Thanks, I cant believe I found this thing before you did.;) It seems to have had allot of work done on it. I'm going to pull the pan next week. I'll keep you posted.

I'm just starting to do the research on the best way to do the swap and I'm open to suggestions. A '32 K member might be the way to go.

  19. Then you'll need a 32 wishbone (if you dont wanna split the bones) and thats about a 1500.00 package for those three parts. If it were me I would just dump it in the A chassis... I BELIVE it will fit with no mods as far as length and I know the front and side mounts are no problem. Clings sold a kit to hook up the wishbone, E brake (not needed in your case) and mount the wishbone in an A chassis. Or, do like my old one...Hack the back off the pan, dump the B trans and buy the kit to put a later three speed in there. I put a 37-38 tranny in my old coupe and it was my favorite improvement in the car. Course it was a basicly stock A and I did not want to modify much so thats why I coose to got that route.

  20. Actually, I just noticed your going with a 36 rear (meaning you gotta shorten the torquetube/driveshaft andyways) and you already have split front bones...so if your pedals are mounted differently then stock then that lil B will just drop right in as-is. If your using A pedals, just make a bracket like the one pictured above to mount them on the trans and your done.

I didn't think to use my 'A' pedals that I've already shortened and pressed new bushings into. I also made a bracket to hold a '40 master cylinder that I would be able to reuse. Going this route would make it fairly simple. Thanks a million. TK
