I have had two gurus look at her and one is sure it is a 28 the other a 29, hell I don't know. Is there some way to tell? The plate is blank and I haven't found any #s anywhere. Thanks, The GO-rilla.
Is the picture in one of your Private messages? The link would be able to be accessed by you but not by other users. Its the same problem as linking a picture off of your hard drive instead of uploading it.
Sorry, I am a bonehead but not bad for an ape though, well you guys know what I'm talking about.Took the link out, thanks in advance.
One of your "gurus" isn't a guru if he can't give you a solid answer why it's a '28 or '29. And if the guy that said it's a '28 didn't point out the two holes in the lower left corner of the rear panel where the taillight bracket mounts he's not a "guru" either. Two holes it's a '28- no holes it's a '29. Am I a "guru"?
Is there a bump on the splash apron near the rear for the mechanical brake lever? That was one difference and if i remember right it was the 28 that had it... Whats the big deal anyway? 28 and 29 was the best looking to me and the differences were so minimal it doesnt really matter... After you get it done no one is gonna know anyway so call it what ya want... Dave
I found the date on mine on the upper firewall , driver side., athough It seems only a 9 was stamped for the year part.
I doubt this project is going far without takeing the body off the frame so do it now and wire brush the rust off the top of the driver's side frame rail just aft of the body firewall bolt hole an read the number between the two stars. if it's *A810123* or bigger number it was built in 1929, although "Model Year" may have ended the end of September which would make the last '28 Model Year car *A473012*. (There's a month by month production breakdown in this little bookcalled Ford Model A restoration manual A-1 published C- 1955 by Ford Motor Company. I bought a reprint at the local Antique Ford Parts store.)
There are early "AR" front fenders on some '28's, tires hit on the inside on tight corners and Ford changed them. The build date should be stamped on the gas tank or firewall on the drivers side just about opposite the location of the data plate. Early '28's had a tail light bracket that bolts to the body, 29's has it on the left rear fender. Parking brake is on the outside on real early '28's. Real early '28's have different 21 inch wheels than later 28 & 29's. Any more info will turn this into a restoration post.
