I have been looking for something like these vintage plastic litter bins to put on the front floor of my 56 belair wagon. I remember them having a sandbag on each side to weight them down. These were for sale everywhere when I was a kid but I can't seem to find anything like it now. Did I dream this?
Can anyone recommend a vintage-y thing I can use on the ****** hump on my wagon?
Thanks and have a great day.

My folks always had one in their car when I was a kid. I'd think it would be easy enough to make one, they were just sewn pieces of vinyl with sand inside. Another option would be to put some pieces of Velcro on the bottom of your litter bin/console/cupholder/whatever, and stick it to the carpeting.

  7. I had the "deluxe" version that had a compartment on the front that held a small box of tissues. I carried my 8-track tapes in the litter bin part. I hadn't thought about that in years!

This is the closest new thing that I've found. It has little nubs on the bottom that holds it on the carpeted hump. I have on in my '79 malibu wagon daily. I got it through Keystone Auto Operations at my work.

I bought one at Western Auto in 1980 and an air freshener that came in a little gl*** tube with a ball point pen style clip. You loosened the cap to release the scent; real loose very Pine Forest or kinda loose for a sprig of spruce.:) Ran it in my 57 for a long time, can't remember what happened to it.

There was a period of time where I thought they were standard equipment in just about every car made. Can't believe they aren't still available.

I have several of them in stock (I think I have black, cream and beige). See www.oldcaraccessories.com - they aren't on there yet (I have 10000 things to list but not a lot of time), but if you are interested I'll send you a photo of them. Cheers - Alan (newbie)

My Mom had one with the matching sand bag ash tray on the dash full of Raleigh cig ****s. She saved the coupons of the cig cartons and ordered goodies from the premium catalog! Good ol days? ~sololobo~

My 64 Cadillac had a factory one like you describe. I tried to clean it up, the s***ching came apart and all the sand fell out. It looked kinda fancy with a gold band around the plastic tissue part and some gold piping around the bag.
