Came over here years ago and signed up after being recomended by a few fellow volksrodders. Fell in love with the old lead and wealth of knowledge, so I've been trolling for a few years soaking up info. Been into Hot Rods since I was a little kid. Grew up around bikes, and at the drag strip. 8 years in Uncle Sam's crew, 2 times to the sandbox, out now. Had a handful of old cars over the years, big time bike nut nowadays. Been DYING to get back in some old American steel so I sold off my 57 VW Oval Beetle, and bought a $200 1949 Chevy pickup off my brother-in-law. Been scouring the junkyards looking for cool shit to pick for some custom touches, I'll start a build thread when I get going on it. I'm a MOD over at www.chopperhack.com come on over and give us a shout, chops and bobs of all makes and models. everyone's welcome. Some of my old rides: 53 Belair - first car, never got to even work on it before we up and moved 55 Chrysler New Yorker w/ 331 Hemi- High School sweetheart 72 Chevelle Malibu - Grandpa bought it new, now she's mine, and the next big project after I'm done with my current chop 70 Chevy longbed - Grandpa's too, wife's next project 66 Beetle - rotten heap, sold for parts 57 Beetle - Traded an 87 Toyota turbo 4wd for it, drove the yota from VA to TX, drove the beetle back from TX to VA 67-72 Chevy trucks - have owned somewhere around 12-14 over the years 77 Vega Wagon 78 Yamaha xs650 Chop - being completely redone right now Here's a couple shots of the xs before and currently My 57 VW I just sold My new 49 Chevy project. Plan for now is put the bitch together a little ratty, maybe one color (my 5 and 6 year old daughters are trying to talk me into tons of old style flames all over) and hopefully have enough $$$ to drop it some. Then add some custom touches and hot rod it a little over time.
Right now the plan is to get it put together and BACK ON THE ROAD where it belongs. After that, make up my mind on a color of flatz or something cool. Maybe some flames if my little girls have their way! haha Eventually some grafting of sheetmetal and parts off of other cool old sleds dropped straight axle, springs and shocks. Maybe a disk brake front and an early small block eventually.
Welcome Kurse from the great central valley in California....Get after it and keep us posted with some progress pic's. My 49 took 4 years and three different parts trucks to get it done....Stay the course my friend.
